The Member Services Specialist coordinates and administers the activities of the Fort Worth Employees’ Retirement Fund (FWERF)’s benefit programs to 12,000+ members in the areas of retiree and survivor benefit payments, retirement processing, the disability program, and death benefits. Essential duties include:
- Conduct one-on-one pre-retirement counseling to active members.
- Perform accurate, complex benefit calculations.
- Counsel family of deceased participants concerning death benefits, secure necessary verifications/authorizations, and process post-death retirement benefits.
- Process periodic monthly and non-periodic bi-weekly retiree benefit payrolls.
- Prepare monthly meeting agenda item detailing retirement applications for Board approval.
- Update the pension administration system for all new and/or revised participant information.
- Ensure that participant personally identifiable information is kept confidential and securely filed.
- Coordinate and conduct in-house and job-site retirement benefit seminars, securing guest speakers as necessary.
Job qualifications include knowledge of:
- Defined benefit pension plans
- Simple versus compounding interest
- Business letter writing and advanced report preparation
- Confidentiality requirements related to PII
- Pertinent Federal, State and local laws, codes and regulations
- Banking and payroll processes
Education and Experience requirements include any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and ability to qualify:
- Education: College-level course work in human resources, business administration or a related field. Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered. Undergraduate degree is preferred.
- Experience: 2-5 years of increasingly responsible human resources or employee benefits administration experience.
