Location – Motion Project, Cheektowaga, NY

Position type – Part time

Education level – Bachelor’s degree **Master’s degree preferred.

Job Category – Activity-based intense exercise recovery program

 

Job Summary – Motion Project is the first to offer this intensive activity-based exercise program tailored specifically for those living with a spinal cord injury or other life changing neurological injury or disease that caused paralysis.

A personalized blend of physical exercise, education, adaptive technology, equipment solutions and coordination are needed for progress to be made. At Motion Project, we know movement makes a difference. We aim to help all clients beyond clinical walls to heal mentally, physically, and emotionally, supporting them in regaining all aspects of their life to live a purposeful and fulfilled life despite their unique challenges.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

Work within the guidelines outlined by the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) and/or in the American Society of Exercise Physiology (ASEP)

 

Responsible for learning activity-based therapy principles to implement in client sessions.

 

Coordinate with Lead Specialist to provide the best treatment and exercise program within the scope of practice.

 

Implement individualized treatment program and monitor response to treatment to ensure client safety. Assist clients in lifts, equipment set up, activities of daily living, transfers, wheelchair mobility, weight shifts, and locomotor training.

 

Coach, educate, be engaged, and motivate clients throughout their training sessions. Inform families regarding the program, any changes, modifications, and exercise programs.

 

Provide training sessions for clients including but not limited to prevention, recognition, clinical evaluation, immediate care, treatment, and rehabilitation. Provide guided activities for clients to do at home to continue their progress.

 

Must be able to verbally explain and demonstrate all components of a variety of exercises along with its relevant application to the client’s recovery.

 

Must demonstrate clear understanding of progression and regression of exercises.

 

Must be able to demonstrate and teach training methods for all fitness levels.

 

Provide benchmark physiological information to enable long-term development facilitating recovery reducing compensation.

 

Use resources and equipment such as functional electric stimulation, technology, and vibration platforms to accelerate recovery.

 

Record session plan and progress and any changes to a client experience daily.

 

Maintain equipment, the gym area, storage areas, wheelchairs and bathroom equipment, and other areas as assigned.

 

Assist Lead Specialist as needed.

 

Complete all paid training provided in a timely manner. Attend local, regional, and national meetings/training/seminars and conferences.

 

Must be able to promote company vision.

 

Perform other related duties.

 

Obtain continuing education in the field.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

 

Requirements and Qualifications

 

** Master’s degree preferred

** Experience preferred

 

Current CPR/AED/FIRST AID certification required.

1+ years’ experience in a clinical rehab setting or sports performance model.

NCCA accredited Personal Training or other certifications are a plus.

ACSM, CSCS, CSPS, ISSA, IASTM, ACE, NSCA, NASM certifications a plus.

 

Must have intermediate/ advanced knowledge of anatomy, physiology, kinesiology, neurology, exercise techniques and programming.

 

Must be able to pass background check prior to starting.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

Requires considerable physical activity including standing, walking, kneeling, heavy lifting, pushing, or pulling of object up to 80 lbs. and occasionally must aid or assist clients and other team members.

May require assisting clients with wheelchair transfers on to workout tables/equipment.

Work environment involves some exposure to hazards/physical risk, which requires adhering to basic safety precautions.

Must have a high degree of energy, be physically fit, and have the endurance to complete the workout with their client.

Must be in good physical condition and maintain a healthy lifestyle.
