REQUIREMENTS: Registered Nurse / Licensed Practical Nurse License or Medical Assistant Certification.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Perform basic clerical functions, schedule, coordinate and monitor appointments.
- Schedule inpatient/outpatient admissions and procedures.
- Apply principles of aseptic technique and infection control and comply with quality assurance practices.
- Collect and process specimens, and screen and follow-up patient test results.
- Obtain patient history and vital signs. Maintain medication. Coordinate patient care information with other health care providers.
- Prepare and maintain examination and treatment areas. Prepare patients for examinations, procedures and treatments. Assist with discharge of patients.
- Assist with examinations, sterile and non-sterile procedures and treatments.
- Adhere to established triage procedures, recognize and respond to emergencies.
- Prepare instrumentation for daily use and surgical use.
- Maintain podiatric supplies.
- Answer basic insurance and billing questions.
- Log all biopsies, orthotic orders and diabetic shoe orders.
- Assist with tasks required to provide diabetic shoes to qualifying patients. This includes measuring for the shoes, keeping up-to-date on Medicare documentation requirements, and maintaining the required signatures for dispensing of the shoes.
- Assist DPM with documentation in EMR.
- Recognition of physical exam process and ability to accurately record exam details.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
ENVIRONMENTAL/WORKING CONDITIONS: Combination of office and exam settings. Frequent exposure to communicable diseases, toxic substances, ionizing radiation, medicinal preparations and other conditions common to a clinic environment.
PHYSICAL/MENTAL DEMANDS: Varied activities including standing, walking, reaching, bending, lifting. Requires full range of body motion including handling & assisting patients, manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination. Requires standing and walking for extensive periods of time. Occasionally lifts and carries items weighing up to 100 pounds. Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range. Requires working under stressful conditions or working irregular hours.
