Our client, a major chemical manufacturer, is looking for a contract Lab Tech for their Tucson, AZ, site.

This is a contract position (possibility of extension or direct hire for the right candidate) and a pay rate of $30/hour

Chemistry Lab experience (professional or academic) is REQUIRED.

Chemistry lab technicians assist chemists in their lab work. As time progresses, lab technicians are completing a greater number of tasks that previously would have been performed by highly trained chemists. Technicians are responsible for monitoring chemical processes and testing products as part of quality assurance. Under the supervision of chemists and other team members, they perform repetitive lab activities, such as setting up lab equipment and preparing chemical solutions. They also conduct tests, interpret and analyze data, compile results, prepare reports, and present their conclusions.

Laboratory Responsibilities


  • Learn all standard hydrometallurgical and solid-liquid separation techniques and procedures
  • Maintain/repair lab equipment
  • Ensure that ISO requirements are met for each instrument and procedure

     

Lab Administration


  • Track hydrometallurgical analysis
  • Track solid-liquid separation analysis
  • Perform testing for customer-related projects
  • Prepare samples per customer requests
  • Prepare laboratory QC solutions, diluents, and standards.

Ensure that samples meet specifications


  • Maintain equipment
  • Log and report results of all testing

     

 

Profile Analysis


  • Perform analysis on plant profile samples
  • Log and report results to Technical Sales group

     

Comprehensive Technical Service Program


  • Update database
  • Sample tracking
  • Results tracking
  • Write/Revise standard operating procedures (SOPs)
  • Customer Support
  • Deal Directly with Sales Team and perform any analyses requested
  • Fulfill sample requests from customers, requests range from unique blends to neat reagent
  • Responsible for performing unique plant-specific analyses

     

Regulatory Support


  • Operate as a competent RCRA hazardous waste employee
  • Understands that safety and Environmental responsibility is a major part of our principles.
  • Must report all unsafe conditions and accidents immediately to appropriate manager.
  • Assure standards of safety, environmental, team and individual performance are met in a high-performance team based organization.

     

Nature and Scope –

· Work environment (extent of interaction with Supervisor(s) for approval, concurrence, resolution, etc.): Ensure that customer technical service needs are met.

· Business environment (economic or technological conditions dealt with on a regular basis): Continuing education regarding hydrometallurgical processes.

· Internal and external relationships (nature and frequency): Interact on a frequent basis with sales representatives and technical service laboratory personnel. Interact with existing customers as well as potential new customers (on-site, at industry conferences, and at technical meetings).

Qualifications

 


  • Bachelor degree in a scientific field.
  • Experience in laboratory activity - performance experiments, familiarity with pH measurement, basic chemical mixing, basic chemical conversion and mass balance calculation is required
  • Basic knowledge of chemical instrumentation, chemical compatibility, chemical handling, and chemical storage is Required
