Anne Arundel Urology is looking for a Medical Assistant to join our team. The Medical Assistant will provide medical services to patients under the guidance of a Licensed Provider and/or Registered Nurse. Our practice has offices located in Annapolis, Glen Burnie, Odenton, Bowie and Greenbelt.

The ideal person for this type of role is a good listener, outgoing and compassionate, organized, adaptable and an excellent problem solver. This vital role greets our patients, displays professionalism, and maintains confidentiality at all times. The Medical Assistant assists in direct patient care, performs treatments and administers medications with appropriate training as directed by the supervising physician, and is an active team participant in the patient-centered practice by aiding in the development of office workflows.

Responsibilities: 

  • Update patient’s medical history, medication list, and allergies in EMR and confirm purpose of visit.
  • Prepare the examination room and escorts patient into the room. Cleans examination room when exam is complete.
  • Triage patient charts to ensure all pertinent information is in electronic record in preparation for the patient’s visit.
  • Communicates & provides care aligned with patient’s age, cultural, spiritual, and developmental needs.
  • Obtains and document patients’ vital signs including, but not limited to BP, temperature, pulse, height & weight.
  • Performs necessary test such urinalysis, PSA, etc.
  • Ability to give safe injections and draw blood.
  • Assists providers during a physical exam as needed.
  • Consistently and accurately stocks examination rooms with all necessary supplies.
  • Assists in ordering and maintaining appropriate medications and supplies.
  • Effectively communicates problems, concerns, or issues to the Supervisor promptly.
  • Maintain patient’s confidentiality at all times by complying with HIPAA guidelines with regard to privacy & release of patient records.
  • Completes other duties as assigned by management or providers in a professional and timely fashion.

Required Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Medical Assistant certificate or completion of a MA program required.
  • Medical office experience preferred.
  • BLS Certification approved by AHA.
  • Must be able to multitask in a high volume, fast-paced environment without compromise to accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Phlebotomy certification and experience is a plus.
  • Demonstrates positive attitude and excellent customer service skills.
  • Possess strong written and oral communication skills and computer experience, EMR experience preferred.
  • Proficient knowledge of medical terminology
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
  • Appropriately adheres to universal safety precautions when administering medications and disposal of medical waste.
