Evening and Week End Shelter Coordinator Shifts are available for the Springboard Village Interim Housing Program.
In a Low Barrier Navigation Center (LBNC) operating around the clock, staff positions are critical for ensuring the safety and well-being of participants. Their duties can be quite extensive and varied, encompassing aspects of safety, wellness, crisis intervention, and rule enforcement:
Safety for Participants:
Regularly monitor the center environment to ensure it is safe and secure.
Implement and enforce safety protocols and procedures.
Address any hazards or maintenance issues promptly to prevent accidents or injuries.
Manage access control to the facility, ensuring only authorized individuals enter.
Wellness Checks:
Conduct regular wellness checks on participants, especially those with known health issues or vulnerabilities.
Be alert to signs of distress, illness, or other needs among participants.
Facilitate access to medical care or social services as required.
Monitoring outside areas in a variety of weather conditions is required.
Conflict Intervention:
Mediate conflicts between participants to prevent escalation.
Employ de-escalation techniques and conflict resolution strategies.
Call for external assistance (e.g., police, crisis intervention teams) if necessary.
Handling Medical Emergencies:
Respond quickly to medical emergencies within the center.
Provide first aid and basic life support until medical professionals arrive.
Have knowledge of emergency procedures and local emergency contacts.
Drug-Related Overdose Interventions:
Recognize signs of drug overdose and respond appropriately.
Administer naloxone or other emergency treatments if trained and authorized.
Coordinate with emergency medical services for immediate intervention.
Enforcement of No Substance Use Rule:
Monitor for signs of substance use within the facility.
Enforce rules regarding no substance use on-site consistently and fairly.
Provide information and referrals to substance abuse treatment programs as needed.
Additional Duties:
Assist in the intake and orientation of new participants.
Maintain records of participant interactions, incidents, and needs.
Collaborate with other staff and external agencies for participant support services.
Facilitate activities or programs aimed at skill-building, recreation, or relaxation.
Engage in ongoing training related to homelessness, mental health, substance abuse, and crisis intervention.
Requires the ability to climb stairs and must be able to walk on uneven surfaces
Given the nature of a Low Barrier Navigation Center, staff members need to be adaptable, compassionate, and skilled in handling a variety of challenging situations. They play a pivotal role in creating a safe, supportive environment that respects the dignity and needs of all participants.
