JOB SUMMARY:

The primary responsibility of Service Writer is to assist the Service Department Manager in the supervision and the day-to-day operations of the Service Department. REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS The Service Writer reports directly to the Service Manager.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Answer incoming phone calls to the service department.  Schedule, quote and assign work as required to run the Service Department as efficiently and profitably as possible. Follow up with customers as necessary.  Correctly communicate Kenworth warranty policies to customers as it applies to each service request. Work with Warranty Administrator to assure the timely and accurate filing of claims and jobs are completed with-in the labor guidelines payable by the O.E.M.  Verify any and all trucks through S.I.R. for delivery dates and/or any possible extended warranty. Up-sell to customer any additional work that we determine is needed.  Keep Service Manager informed on shop bills, which might exceed the customer’s credit limit and get required approval.  Allow for flexibility in schedule.  Maintain a clean and professional work environment.  Be able to support all departments of the dealership through a working relationship with each department manager. Coordinate and cooperate with other functional department managers  Always represent the dealership in a professional and courteous manner while dealing with customers and vendors.  Follows all accounting and procedural rules as outlined in the Service Department Polices Book and the Company Employee Handbook.  Comply with all safety policies, practices and procedures. Report all unsafe activities to the Service Manager.  Abides by the company Drug Free Policy. Employee may perform other related duties as negotiated to meet the ongoing needs of the organization.  Additional duties may be added as needed.

REQUIREMENTS

 High school diploma or GED.  Ability to read or comprehend simple instructions and write correspondence.  Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide all units of measure including whole numbers, common fractions and decimals. Both with or without a calculator.  Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form.  Basic personal computer skills including Microsoft Windows, electronic mail and word processing.  Must be able to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.  Ability to access via steps, upper level parts storage area.
