Medical Office Receptionist

Job Description

 

  • Welcomes and greets all patients and visitors, in person
  • Answers the phone while maintaining a polite, consistent phone manner using proper telephone etiquette
  • Responsible for keeping the reception area clean and organized
  • Registers new patients and updates existing patient demographics by collecting patient detailed patient information including personal and financial information
  • Facilitates patient flow by notifying the providers medical assistant of patients' arrival, being aware of delays, and communicating with patients and clinical staff
  • Responds to patients', prospective patients, and visitor inquiries in a courteous manner
  • Scans patient health forms and health information into electronic patient charts; 
    - Prepares invoices for medical records requests and sends out medical records as payments are received 
    - Copies physician-dictated reports and complies with requests for copies of patient records from patients and other persons such as physicians following departmental policies and HIPAA guidelines to safeguard patient confidentiality.
    Protects patient confidentiality by making sure protected health information is secured by not leaving PHI in plain site and logging off the computer before leaving it unattended.
  • Collecting patient copay/deductible and balances
  • Post prepays
  • Scan documents into EMR and place into correct patient charts
  • Other duties/tasks as assigned
