Job: In the school environment, Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs) play a crucial role in executing nursing procedures and tasks delegated by healthcare professionals. Their focus is on fostering the health and well-being of school-aged children and adolescents. LPNs operate within a school setting under the supervision of a licensed Registered Nurse (RN) in accordance with Tennessee Board of Nursing guidelines and state regulations. Adherence to the Nurse Practice Act, LPN standards, and school district policies is essential.

 

- Collaborate with the assigned RN in a team-oriented approach.

- Administer medications and treatments to students following district protocols, supervised by the RN.

- Exercise prudent and timely interventions for students based on current medical and nursing standards.

- Maintain accurate documentation for student care observation, planning, and evaluation.

- Foster transparent communication with the RN and school personnel while upholding confidentiality.

- Provide first aid during emergencies.

 

WORK ETHICS:

- Maintain confidentiality regarding students and faculty.

- Demonstrate proficiency in nursing skills.

- Exhibit reliability and adherence to assigned duties.

- Accept and execute directions from RN and Nursing Supervisor.

- Adhere to a routine daily schedule under the Nursing Supervisor's guidance.

- Practice tactfulness in interactions with others.

- Foster positive relationships with students, parents, and school staff.

- Show loyalty to the school system and colleagues.

- Prioritize safety through proper use of Universal Precautions and Aseptic/Sterile techniques.

- Display openness to suggestions.

- Uphold professionalism by adhering to nursing ethics and maintaining current CPR certification.

- Adhere to the dress code policy, maintaining appropriate attire.

- Collaborate effectively with others.

- Ensure timely and appropriate communication with professionals and RN regarding student concerns.

- Maintain punctuality in reporting to school.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

- Active Tennessee LPN license in good standing.

- Graduate of a Practical Nurse program with at least two years of recent nursing experience, preferably in school nursing, pediatric nursing, community health nursing, home health, or emergency department settings.

- Access to a reliable automobile for required travel between schools (mileage reimbursed).

- Strong verbal and written communication skills, with computer charting experience being advantageous.

- Physical capability to fulfill performance requirements for grades pre-K to 12, including lifting, stooping, and bending.
