The duties of an EFDA/Assistant are not limited to the functions below. The expanded functions that EFDAs and dental assistants are allowed to perform in a dental office are dictated by Ohio's dental board.

  • Assisting the dentist during a variety of treatment procedures
  • Capturing quality dental radiographs (x-rays)
  • Perform efficient and accurate procedures as directed by the Dentist, while maintaining the schedule and patient flow
  • Carryout infection control protocol- preparing and sterilizing instruments and equipment
  • Providing patients with instructions for oral care following surgery or other dental treatment procedures, as directed by the Dentist
  • With the direction of the Dentist, education patients on appropriate oral hygiene strategies to maintain oral health (e.g., toothbrushing, flossing, home care)
  • Taking impressions of patients' teeth for diagnostic casts
  • Inventory

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Expanded Functions Dental Assistant Certificate, if applicable
  • 1 year dental practice experience (Preferred); recent grads will be considered
  • X-Ray Certification
  • CPR Certification
  • CBCT/Digital x-ray experience (Preferred)
  • Prior experience with dental management software - Dentrix Ascend preferred, but will train the right candidate

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Dedication to provide high quality, comprehensive chairside care
  • Ability to comply with safety procedures, rules, and regulations in order to maintain a clean and safe working environment
  • Strong working knowledge of dental terminology, equipment, and practices
