The Organization
Good Samaritan Family Resource Center (GSFRC) is an innovative multi-service non-profit agency located in San Francisco’s Mission District. Its mission is to help immigrant families access needed services, develop self-sufficiency, and participate fully as members of the community. Our staff is a diverse and talented team willing to take different and unique approaches to help children, youth and families thrive and succeed.
Position Summary
The Enhanced Visitation Specialist promotes the well-being of immigrant families through culturally relevant, strength-based services including education, support, advocacy, case management, and linkages to community services and resources. This position is designed to strengthen the ability of parents to support the healthy development and success of their children and is responsible for providing both individual support and group-based programming to Spanish-speaking families. This position provides a safe and welcoming space for parent(s) to visit their child(ren) who has been removed from their care and is involved in the child welfare system
Specific Responsibilities
Participant Engagement
- Ensure communication and interventions with visitors and participants are culturally relevant, acknowledge and value families' strengths, and are responsive to the multiple aspects of the diversity of the families served
- Make appropriate referrals to Good Samaritan services and other community resources, and encourage/facilitate successful and continued access to those services
- Explain Good Samaritan classes and programs to participants, other service providers, and visitors
- Conduct Basic and Comprehensive Intakes through internal database (Salesforce, CMS) to new and returning Good Samaritan Participants which includes assessing needs, completing consent forms and keeping documents confidential.
- Support families with reunification (time-limited and/or court ordered) and community resources and other support for those at risk for abuse/neglect or losing housing.
- Provide families referred to by Family & Children Services in a non-judgmental, culturally responsive and non-stigmatizing support and navigation services.
- Provide specialized support for referred families with the inclusion of in-person office appointments, in-home visits, accompaniments to service navigation resources, assess and address crisis and needs.
- Oversee visits (minimum 2 families/week, up to 6 hours each visit) with families enrolled in Enhanced Visitation Services.
- Teach and model skills and strategies for accessing services, goal setting, problem solving, conflict resolution, communication, parenting, and other areas relevant to family’s well-being
- Complete program reporting and program evaluation activities required by DEC and Child Protective Services
- Perform community research to identify and add new resources to our resource information guide
- Follow building safety protocols and procedures during visitations
- Provide administrative support to staff as needed
- Other duties as assigned
Collaboration
- Attend Enhanced Visitation Provider meetings to coordinate services and supports to families receiving EV resources.
- Work closely with staff of all departments to ensure integration of resources and services
- Attend mental health consultations, individual, team, EV committee, staff and other meetings as scheduled
- Participate in a variety of case-related meetings at family, agency and multi-agency levels
- Participate in training opportunities which are deemed beneficial to professional growth and position
Data Collection
- Maintain intakes, case notes, files, and other documentation and data for each program activity
- Enter required registrations and attendance into database by assigned due date.
Other Responsibilities
- Comply with the legal standards for mandated reporting.
- Ensure that programs and services are aligned with Good Sam’s Mission and Vision
- Other tasks as assigned
Minimum Qualifications
- BA in Social Work/related field or equivalent years of experience
- Minimum of one year experience in case management or related case work
- Experience in client interviewing, assessment, and service plan development
- Bilingual Spanish/English required (reading, writing, and verbal)
- Experience working with Latino immigrant population and understanding of immigrant issues
- Experience with facilitation of workshops, classes
