We are seeking two Boiler Plant Operators to join our team You will help oversee operational activities and ensure excellent quality control. 

Responsibilities:

  • Individual must be responsible for the start operation, adjustment, shut-down, maintenance and repair of Cleaver Brooks Boilers 
  • Individual must be able to change load demands while maintain safe levels and efficient combustion
  • Keep steam in the patient areas if a power, water, or steam failure occurs
  • Operates all boiler auxiliary equipment such as automatic boiler controls, feed water heaters, pumps, forced and induced draft fans, and water softeners
  • Adjust firing controls for the correct air fuel mixture, adjust fuel feeds, and air drafts to obtain the most efficient air fuel mixture for maximum combustion efficiency and energy conservation
  • Maintains efficient combustion levels to ensure compliance with air pollution laws, pollution levels are monitored regularly by the Maryland Department of the Environment (MDE) and other regulatory agencies
  • Recognizes, interprets and react to variety of problems that may be indicated on chart recorders, gauges, and/or meters which indicate steam flow, steam pressure, feed water flow and temperatures and make necessary adjustments to prevent the loss of a boiler(s)
  • Determines the type and amount of chemicals to be added to the boilers and the condensate return system for control of corrosion and scale formation
  • Performs journeyman level steamfitter work independently
  • Will be required to frequently work in confined areas in and around boiler and support equipment (i.e. pollution control equipment)
  • Workers frequently lift and carry parts and chemical supplies weighing up to 40 pounds unassisted and, occasionally items weighing over 40 pounds with the assistances of other workers or weight handing equipment

Qualifications:

  • Stationary Engineer's License (valid/current)
  • Experience operating high-pressure boilers;
  • Thorough familiarity with Cleaver-Brooks boilers;
  • Clear criminal record - no felony convictions or misdemeanor convictions for assaultive behavior or crimes of moral turpitude; and
  • Physical qualifications:
    • Able to frequently lift 50 pounds and occasionally up to 75 pounds using proper lifting technique to prevent injury;
    • Climb ladders and work at heights, i.e., no dizziness, vertigo, or any condition that would interfere with this ability;
    • Work in confined spaces, i.e., no claustrophobia or any condition that would interfere with this ability;
    • Work in heat, often over 100&degree;F;
    • Work in a noisy environment requiring hearing protection for multiple hours;
    • Ability to identify and mitigate exposure to hazardous materials, including but not limited to asbestos, machine parts, soot, dirt, grease, chemicals, oil, and fumes;
    • Ability to work while wearing an OSHA-approved, properly fit-tested respirator for multiple hours;
    • Stand for multiple hours and bend over numerous times per shift;
    • Hear well enough to distinguish different audible alarms; and
    • Eyesight correctable to 20/20 in at least one eye, unimpaired depth perception, and without red/green colorblindness.
