Basic Function

The MG Case Manager provides services that assist recently-arrived refugees and immigrants participating in the U.S. Office of Refugee Resettlement’s Matching Grant (MG) Program. The Refugee MG Case Manager will adhere to all relevant program guidelines in providing direct case management to participants in the MG Program by eliminating barriers relating to employment, education, health, transportation, social adjustment and basic needs with the goal of self-sufficiency. This will be accomplished by preparing and implementing a case management plan in accordance with timelines and requirements of ETSS, LIRS, and/or other funding sources.

Responsibilities

  • Provide case management services for a caseload of refugees & immigrants participating in the MG program
  • Ensure participants are well-versed in their MG Program rights, responsibilities and financials
  • Develop and implement MG Self-Sufficiency with focus on eliminating barriers to self-sufficiency and job placement as soon as possible
  • Refer participants both in-house and externally as part of their Plans while serving as a liaison to service providers
  • Adhere to Office of Refugee Resettlement and in-house guidelines in service provision and documentation
  • Conduct home and field visit assignments as needed and in accordance with agency health and safety protocol
  • Assists with development of self-sufficiency plan in cooperation with ETSS staff with the goal of assisting clients in reaching self-sufficiency within established time periods.
  • Arranges for transportation for clients to appointments when appropriate.
  • Connect clients with legal services for SIV and Asylee processing,
  • Set up appointments for legal processing.
  • Obtains the services of an interpreter whenever necessary to ensure culturally and linguistically appropriate delivery of services.
  • Monitors client progress through telephone or personal contacts throughout the period of service.
  • Maintains client case notes of all contacts with the client and documents all client services in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Track participants' progress in electronic case files, noting any delays in progress
  • Serves as a liaison with the local community regarding refugee resettlement program questions and assist both the community and the clients to understand each other’s
  • Assist clients in obtaining and retaining employment. Identify barriers to employment.
  • Coordinates services with other key staff to assure comprehensive services for the refugee.
  • Attends and participates in staff meetings.
  • Participates in community outreach activities that advances the work and message of ETSS and LIRS.
  • Complies with all federal, state and Lutheran Immigrant and Refugee Service Contracts
  • Demonstrates an organized and pro-active approach to services to clients, program reporting and communication to all agency staff.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Skills/Performance Requirements

  • Commitment to the human rights and general welfare of parolees, asylum seekers, refugees, and immigrants.
  • Must be capable of working in a fast-paced, multicultural office environment, take initiative, and be able to handle and prioritize multiple assignments at once.
  • Valid driver’s license and access to own transportation required. Must be willing to transport clients in your vehicle.
  • Must have ability to work some late nights and weekends.
  • Must have strong organizational skills and attention to detail including comprehensive case noting.
  • Language capacity in common refugee language(s), preferred.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Negotiation and conflict management skills.
  • General knowledge of refugee resettlement practices in the U.S., preferred.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office applications.

Education

  • Minimum of Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) in social work or related field preferred, or equivalent combination of education and demonstrated experience.

Experience

Minimum of three years of experience working in a nonprofit or social services environment, preferred. Minimum of three years of case management experience. Extensive experience, ability and desire to work with people of other cultures. Also, experience working with refugees in the resettlement process is preferred. Must have experience working on various computer and web applications.
