About the Role:

We are in search of a dedicated Full-Time Therapeutic Musician to enhance the lives of the elderly in various community settings. This unique role calls for a skilled vocalist proficient in guitar and/or piano accompaniment. The successful candidate will design and implement musical activities (group or 1:1) tailored to the interests and abilities of the elderly, fostering an environment of joy, engagement, and connection.

Compensation:

  • Hourly Rate: $15 - $20
  • Average 30 hours per week

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and deliver engaging music programs tailored to the preferences and needs of the elderly, promoting emotional well-being and social interaction.
  • Conduct 1-on-1 and group music sessions, employing a repertoire that resonates with the specific generation, encouraging participation and enjoyment.
  • Observe and report on the participants' responses and progress, such as communication skills, cognitive function, and motor skills, assisting in their overall care plan.
  • Establish genuine connections with the elderly audience, creating a safe and vibrant atmosphere through musical activities.
  • Occasionally undertake market research and participate in outreach initiatives to expand our community impact.
  • This role demands a certain level of physical exertion and agility to efficiently perform essential tasks. Key physical activities include prolonged periods of sitting and standing, the ability to lift and carry objects of various weights, pushing or pulling objects, and driving as necessary. The role may also require extensive reaching, working in low postures, bending, clear vision capabilities, and regular walking. You must be capable of meeting these physical demands to successfully execute the responsibilities of the position.

Essential Qualifications:

  • Demonstrable experience in a music-related field, particularly involving live performance.
  • Strong vocal abilities with proficiency in guitar and/or piano.
  • Familiarity with a wide range of musical genres, with an emphasis on selections that appeal to the elderly.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with an empathetic and patient approach.
  • Availability to travel to various locations as required.
  • Compliance with health regulations, including required COVID-19 vaccination.
  • Proficient with digital technology for remote work scenarios, including Zoom, email communications, and online reporting tools.
  • Reliable, adaptable, and responsive to the needs of the role, team, and those we serve.
  • Openness to ongoing professional development and training in therapeutic recreational services.
