About the Role
Full-scale track testing accounts for a large part of DRI’s business and is involved in various aspects of development, verification, and regulatory testing of cutting edge vehicle safety technologies known as Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS). Test engineers work directly with vehicles in various stages of the development cycle, from early stage prototypes to full production vehicles and are actively responsible for various aspects of testing services including instrumenting vehicles, performing on-track tests including precision driving, data collection, data analysis, reporting, assuring test quality and interfacing with clients. The mid-senior level Test Engineer is expected to be able to manage full test service contracts with clients from start to finish including: project management, resource management, test execution, data analysis, and reporting.
Responsibilities
• Responsible for various aspects of testing services from start to finish which may include:
o Project and resource management including budgeting
o Instrumenting test vehicles
o Instrumentation and data collection system checkout and troubleshooting
o Performing on track tests including precision driving maneuvers
o Data collection and data analysis
o Test reporting
o Assuring the quality of the test output
o Client interfacing
o Equipment maintenance
• Understands requirements of existing test procedures and protocols.
• Operates and maintains various test and support vehicles to aid testing.
• Operates and maintains various test equipment which may include robotic vehicle controllers, computers, computer guided targets, etc.
• Understands and complies with testing quality procedures.
• Maintains client confidentiality.
• Ability to problem solve and implement courses of action for non-conforming test results or in-field issues.
• May be involved with the design, fabrication, and implementation of specialized test equipment.
• Adheres to company policies and procedures as noted per DRI employee manual.
• Complies with company safety policies and procedures
Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related field.
• 3-5 years of experience directly in ADAS testing or relevant field.
• Knowledge and experience with AB Dynamics test equipment such as GST120, LP80, steering robots, pedal robots, etc.
• Knowledge and understanding of various regulatory ADAS tests including, but not limited to, US NCAP protocols, EuroNCAP protocols, IIHS protocols, etc.
• Ability to drive vehicles in various stages of production and development according to strict speed and position tolerances.
• Ability to troubleshoot interconnected mechanical, electronic, and guidance systems.
• Basic vehicle maintenance knowledge – jump starting vehicles, changing tires, etc.
• Working knowledge of physics, electronics, dynamics, mechanical design and assembly, data protocols such as CAN, ethernet, etc.,
• Experience with MATLAB or other coding language.
• Ability to provide strong written reports of detailed test events.
• Experience with MS Office products including Excel and Word

• Possess a strong ability to communicate technical details in a clear and easily understandable manner
• Be a strong team player
• Ability to work independently with little supervision under vague guidance
Additional Notes
This position is fully in person at our Minter Field Test Facility located in Shafter, CA. It may require some travel to various test tracks located within the US. Additionally, due to the nature of track testing, you may be asked to work non-standard or extended hours depending on the project.
