Ophthalmic Technician

Hester Ophthalmology is seeking an Ophthalmic Technician to join our dynamic team in a growing one-provider Surgical and General Ophthalmology practice. We provide full service medical eye care and surgery including cataract surgery and oculoplastic surgery as well as minor in-office procedures.

The Ophthalmic Technician will provide patient intake, pre-screening, triage and complete workup and testing including refraction, OCT, fundus photography, ultrasonic and optical biometry, topography and visual field testing. Additional responsibilities will include scribing, coding, clinical supply inventory, instrument sterilization, scheduling follow-up appointments.

The Ophthalmic Technician greets patients in a warm and friendly manner, explains the ophthalmic exam and testing procedures, answers patient questions and provides patient education, works closely and communicates continuously with providers and other team members to efficiently move patients through their visit and deliver an exceptional patient experience.

Requirements:

  • Knowledge and comprehension of basic medical terminology, anatomy, and the principals of optics and refraction.
  • Willingness to continually learn and increase knowledge and skill set.
  • Excellent typing skills with accuracy, correct spelling and grammar.
  • Knowledge of medical diagnostic codes and experience coding medical visits.
  • Proficiency in utilizing electronic medical records (EMR) and practice management (scheduling) software.
  • Excellent patient service skills, positive attitude and teamwork approach are paramount.
  • Empathetic personality and demonstrated concern for patient needs.
  • Two or more years’ experience as an Ophthalmic Technician or Ophthalmic Assistant highly preferred.
  • Certification (COA, COT) or willingness to achieve certification within one year of hire. The practice will provide training, continuing education, and test fee.

Salary DOE and benefits including 401k with company match.

Job Type: Full-time

Expected hours: 35 – 40 per week
