Job DescriptionJob Description

Summary: Responsible for planning and implementing a developmentally appropriate, child-centered program of activities that promotes the social-emotional, cognitive, and physical development of each child through exploration and discovery. All practices must be consistent with guidelines put forth by Clinton Hill Community & Early Childhood Center, Inc., Grow NJ Kids, and the Head Start Program Performance Standards.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: (This list is not exhaustive, additional duties will be reviewed during orientation)

  • Establish and maintain a well-organized, safe, clean, learning environment conducive to children's optimal growth and development and assure the well-being and safety of the children in care.
  • Observe and document each child’s learning and development; maintain current (no less than weekly) documentation in the electronic student portfolio.
  • Maintain a confidential assessment binder, consisting of developmental assessments, individual goals, and observations of progress toward meeting goals.
  • Maintain supervision of children during all activities, as defined in the Active Supervision Policy.
  • Actively involve parents and families in their children's educational process and development.
  • Establish a positive relationship with each child’s family and communicate regularly via home/center visits, family conferences, daily reports, and informal modes of communication.
  • Complete quarterly assessment checkpoints and conduct family conferences to discuss children’s developmental progress, needs, and interests.
  • Ensure full implementation of IFSPs and inclusion of children with disabilities and special needs.
  • Attend meetings, trainings, and appropriate professional development activities as assigned.
  • Work some non-traditional hours, including evenings and weekends as assigned.

Requirements

Education and Work Experience Requirements: The successful candidate will possess the following:

  • Child Development Associate Credential with Infant-Toddler Endorsement required
  • Demonstrated attention to detail
  • Demonstrated beginner to intermediate computer proficiency
  • Demonstrated excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Prior documented work or volunteer experience in a center or home-based childcare program required
  • Prior documented work or volunteer experience in an Early Head Start or Head Start program preferred
