Lead Carpenter

We are looking for a Lead Carpenter to oversee shop based projects, assist in on site installations, assist in estimating time and materials, supervise and train subordinates, assign project responsibilities (when applicable), maintain timekeeping records, enforce safety and security policies. Additionally, you will cut, fabricate and install wooden and other structures in accordance with project specifications. Your job will entail working in diverse settings to produce attractive, strong and functional products for our customers.

This individual has both a mind for efficiency and an eye for detail. The ideal candidate will also have good knowledge of wood properties and other carpentry materials. Working with little supervision while following all health and safety standards is essential.

Responsibilities

• Read blueprints, drawings and sketches to fully grasp requirements

• Produce accurate project cut lists from plans or renderings

• Accurately measure and calculate the size, type and amount of material needed to complete a project

• Responsible for the efficient and profitable use of the company’s time, manpower and materials on each project as included in the project estimates

• Work with manager(s) to help create anticipated project schedule in advance of project commencement, adjust schedule as needed based on production realities and keep Owner informed of any changes

• Communicate and coordinate project schedules with other carpenters and/or subcontractors

• Supervise the activities of the company’s carpenters and/or subcontractors and ensure the professional image of the company is supported by their activities in the shop and on job sites, and that safety guidelines are adhered to

• Accurately and efficiently cut, shape and finish lumber and other materials in accordance with product/project designs

• Build and assemble furniture, cabinets, shelves, doors and other items from raw materials and/or flat-packed boxes and install when required

• Provide daily progress status to Owner, including any customer concerns, problems, delays, project changes, etc.

• Assist in maintaining operational inventory of necessary tools, safety equipment, equipment and machines to perform specific activities assigned by the Owner

• Attend company and/or customer meetings as requested by the Owner

• Assist in company’s marketing program as directed by the Owner, such as expos and home shows

• Ensure company and customer satisfaction through professional appearance, expert workmanship, timely delivery/installation, and polite communication

 

Requirements

• Independent, hard working and driven

• Minimum of 5 years proven experience as a carpenter with excellent understanding of carpentry techniques and methods of installation and construction

• Proficient in using electrical and manual equipment and measurement tools (powered saws, planers, drills, sanders, hammers, hand tools, squares, rulers etc.)

• Ability to read technical documents and drawings

• Willingness to follow and enforce safety guidelines at all times

• Positive attitude

• Team player

• Self-motivated

• Attention to detail

• Efficient and able to adhere to project timelines without sacrificing quality

• Good knowledge of English

• Good understanding of basic math and geometry

• Good physical condition and endurance

• CLC Certification a plus

• Must have a valid drivers’ license and have reliable personal vehicle

• Must be eligible to work in the US without sponsorship

• 3D modeling software experience such as Sketchup a plus
