Position Title:

Junior Accountant (Part-time)

$19.00 to $22.00 per hour

Job Summary:

The City of Jonesboro is seeking a detail-oriented and highly motivated Junior Accountant to join our Finance Department. The Junior Accountant will assist in the preparation of financial statements, perform general accounting tasks, and support the overall financial operations of the city. This position offers an excellent opportunity for growth and development within the municipal finance sector.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the preparation and analysis of financial statements, budgets, and reports.
  • Perform general accounting duties such as accounts payable, accounts receivable, and bank reconciliations.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records and documentation.
  • Assist in the preparation of month-end and year-end closing processes.
  • Support the preparation and filing of tax returns and other regulatory reports.
  • Assist in the implementation and maintenance of internal controls to ensure compliance with financial policies and procedures.
  • Provide support during audits and assist in gathering necessary documentation and information.
  • Collaborate with other departments to ensure accurate and timely financial reporting.
  • Participate in special projects and perform other duties as assigned by the Senior Accountant or Finance Manager.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a similar experience in lieu.
  • 1-2 years of experience in accounting or finance, preferably in a government or public sector environment.
  • Strong understanding of accounting principles and financial reporting.
  • Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
  • Excellent attention to detail and strong analytical skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with government accounting and financial reporting.
  • Knowledge of local government financial regulations and compliance requirements.
  • Familiarity with financial management software used in municipal accounting.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to work in an office environment and use standard office equipment.
  • Ability to sit for extended periods and perform repetitive tasks.
  • Occasionally required to lift and move objects weighing up to 25 pounds.

Work Environment:

  • The Junior Accountant will work in a standard office setting with moderate noise levels.
  • The position may require occasional overtime during peak financial periods or special projects.
