Salary: $27-$42 Hourly (DOE) The ideal Associate Biologist will be detail-oriented, precision-focused, diplomatic, professional and strive for accuracy. The successful candidate will be responsible for conducting field biological surveys, collecting and analyzing data, writing reports, and providing recommendations based on the results of field surveys. This position will report to the Senior Leadership team while working closely with all team members, clients, key partners, and contractors. This is a hybrid position, working primarily remotely from home in southern California (positions available in San Diego County, and other areas of southern California), with some days requiring in office (requiring fieldwork in southern California and report writing from home); hours and work schedule may be flexible, and may vary depending on company needs. RESPONSIBILITIESCompleting daily health assessments prior to starting each workday.Conducting daily safety self-meetings using a Pangea-approved app.Submitting daily safety check-in/check-out texts to Pangea’s team.Reviewing project documents and evaluating environmental requirements related to the projects.Performing biological surveys, nest surveys, and nest sweeps.Prioritizing multiple responsibilities simultaneously and daily, and following up on issues quickly.Composing and submitting accurate and thorough daily nest survey reports (with photographs) for submittal to clients, and state and federal agencies.Uploading project photographs to Pangea’s cloud server daily.Apply excellent communication skills with the project team, landowners, clients, construction, and the public.Identifying issues and concerns and determining appropriate resolutions, while working collaboratively with Pangea’s management team.Attending meetings with Pangea’s internal team to discuss biological resources observed and recommendations.Providing daily and/or weekly email summary updates to Pangea’s team.Collaborating with the Pangea team to provide details and input for weekly reports.Coordinating with Pangea’s team regarding biological resources observed, recommendations, and mitigation measures.Recording real-time entry of time (clocking in/clocking out with Pangea-approved app on company-provided iPhone), ensuring lunches and breaks are accounted for within the app.Submitting mileage and vehicle service needs via email or smartphone app according to a schedule defined by Pangea.Preparing daily, weekly, and monthly updates for the internal team and clients.Independently conducting field surveys, habitat evaluations, and biological monitoring.Conducting environmental training for construction personnel on field projects.Completing research, analyzing data, writing reports and memorandums.Preparing project and internal correspondence.Preparing presentations for internal and external trainings.Coordinating small projects with direct review and interaction with senior team members.Providing guidance and support to other technical team members.Assisting team members in identifying regulatory requirements and appropriate reporting.Identifying and implementing appropriate mitigation, monitoring, and reporting requirements.Performing other duties as assigned. QUALIFICATIONSBachelor’s degree in Biology, Ecology, Botany, Environmental Science, Wildlife Management, Zoology, or a related field. Applicable permit(s) or advanced degrees may substitute for years of experience.Candidates must have a minimum of 5 years of experience conducting biological surveys in southern California. To work in the field for long hours with early morning start times. May be exposed to inclement weather including rain, snow, and hot and cold temperatures.
