FLSA CLASSIFICATION: Non-Exempt (Hourly – PT)
REPORTS TO: CEO/CFO
JOB PURPOSE: The Pharmacist will dispense drugs prescribed by physicians and other health practitioners and provide information to patients about medications and their use. He or she may advise physicians and other health practitioners on the selection, dosage, interactions, and side effects of medications.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Include but are not limited to the following: (Other duties may be assigned to meet business needs)
- Reviews prescriptions to assure accuracy, ascertain the needed ingredients and evaluate their suitability. Provides information and advice regarding drug interactions, side effects, dosage, and proper medication storage.
- Assesses the identity, strength, or purity of medications. Compounds and dispense medications as prescribed by doctors and dentists by calculating, weighing, measuring, and mixing ingredients or overseeing these activities.
- Maintains records such as pharmacy files, patient profiles, charge system files, inventories, control records for radioactive nuclei, and registries of poisons, narcotics, and controlled drugs.
- Plans, implements and maintains procedures for mixing, packaging, and labeling pharmaceuticals according to policy and legal requirements to ensure quality, security, and proper disposal.
- Provides specialized services to help patients manage conditions such as diabetes, asthma, smoking cessation, and high blood pressure. Offers health promotion and prevention activities by, for example, training people to use devices such as blood pressure and diabetes monitors. Advises customers on the selection of medication brands, medical equipment, and healthcare supplies.
- Collaborates with other healthcare professionals to plan, monitor, review, and evaluate the quality and effectiveness of drugs and drug regimens, providing advice on drug applications and characteristics. Analyzes prescribing trends to monitor patient compliance and prevent excessive usage or harmful interactions.
- Orders and purchases pharmaceutical supplies, medical supplies, and drugs, maintaining stock and storing and handling it properly.
QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS:
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Punctual, honest, and trustworthy
- Able to work with minimum supervision – A self-motivated individual
- Strong patient service skills.
- Excellent knowledge of chemistry and specific drug interactions.
- Strong knowledge of medical and biological terminology.
- Excellent attention to detail and ability to balance competing priorities.
- Exceptional critical thinking and problem-solving skills
EDUCATION/TRAINING/EXPERIENCE
- Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) degree.
- Must be licensed in the State of Texas
- Minimum of 2 years of experience preferred
- Pharmacist in Charge experience preferred
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Work is performed in a general pharmacy setting.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; lift; bend; sit; push; drive; use hands to finger, grasp, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms. The employee is subject to the repetitive motion of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers when typing.
The physical demands of the position are considered to be light work. The employee is required to have close visual acuity to perform work activities such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading; visual inspection involving small defects, small parts, and/or operating of machines (including inspection); using measurement devices.

Percentage of travel time expected is less than 2%. Travel is primarily local during the business day.
