We are looking for an experienced accountant and/or bookkeeper.

Our ideal candidate is open-minded, humble, teachable, energetic, and focused on a long-term career goal. This candidate must have in-depth knowledge of accounting principles, working knowledge of MS Office products, and excellent communication skills.

For the moment, set aside the licenses, certifications, endorsements, degrees, diplomas, medals, trophies, and gold stars. If you can answer affirmatively to the following five statements, you get an interview.

  1. If a journal entry contains a debit to gross receipts, I can anticipate the effect on net income.
  2. I know there are three mandatory main statements comprising the financial statements. I know what they are, I can describe what they report, and I can cross-foot the financial statements.
  3. I know why we amortize, depreciate, allocate, and estimate. I am confident that I can explain these concepts to a client.
  4. A client who maintains their books in the cash basis needs financial statements presented on the accrual basis. I know from which accounts I might anticipate creating Balance Sheet accounts for prepaids and obligations?
  5. If my computer is not handy, can I prepare a bank reconciliation with crayon and paper?

Credentials have a place in our profession, but if you understand the practice, we can help you get the credentials.

Can you do the following?

  • Organize and update financial records as needed (digital and physical)
  • Enter transactions into a ledger.
  • Reconcile accounts.
  • Create adjusting journal entries and know why.
  • Ensure accuracy by self-checking.
  • Learn from experience and grow in the role.
  • Maintain professionalism, politeness, and discretion at all times.
  • Stay current and engaged in the industry.

Requirements:

  • Comprehensive understanding of the double entry accounting method.
  • Solid work/school history showing attendance and follow-through.
  • Positive mental attitude combined with a high level of integrity.
  • Ability to multi-task and adjust to changes quickly.
  • Reliable transportation as we have multiple locations.

Preferred attributes

  • Small CPA firm experience
  • Experience with general ledger accounting software (QuickBooks, Drake Accounting, Creative Solutions, etc.)
  • Advanced MS Office knowledge
  • Payroll experience, relationship sales experience
  • CPA and/or EA designation
  • Active PTIN
  • Experience in reviewing returns and reports.
  • Bilingual/multi-lingual
