Spanish Instructor

Literacy for Life is embarking on a new project which will provide Spanish language classes to businesses in the community. The idea for the project was developed because of LFL’s successful delivery of similar classes at a local employer located in Toano, VA. Customized English classes were delivered to improve workplace communication and assist Spanish speakers with learning safety policies and procedures and Spanish classes were delivered to English-speaking employees to help them better communicate with their Spanish-speaking co-workers. The Hola and Hello project seeks to expand this service. This is a contract position for a Spanish Instructor.

 Function:  To deliver Spanish instruction to adult learners

Specific Duties:

·         Create 4 units (12 lessons per unit) of beginner level Spanish using a core text and supplementing with additional materials and activities to engage learners and enhance language acquisition. Lessons should utilize a variety of instructional techniques, to include pairing, group work, and whole class instruction.

·         Develop a diagnostic assessment to assess the appropriate level of instruction to be delivered.

·         Develop pre-and post-assessments for each unit (4 units) to measure gains in language acquisition made by participants.

·         Teach in person beginner level Spanish classes for local businesses to help English-speaking employees better communicate with their Spanish-speaking co-workers and clients.

·         Liaise with businesses who have contracted the classes

·         Maintain and report accurate learner attendance

·         Ensure that the classroom environment is welcoming and conducive to learning

Qualifications:  College degree required. Experience teaching Spanish to adults. Excellent interpersonal, writing, and presentation skills. Ability to multi-task and work collaboratively. Experience in curriculum development preferred. Experience working with diverse populations and/or experience working with adults.
