This is a Full-time, Supervisory, Salaried position. 40 Hours per week at the Fort Wayne Stillwater Hospice Campus

POSITION TITLE: ASSISTANT DIRECTOR OF NURSING

FLSA STATUS: EXEMPT

REPORTS TO: DIRECTOR OF NURSING

POSITION OBJECTIVE:

Responsible for the overall operations of the hospice inpatient nursing department. Will provide leadership, support, and direction to their assigned team to ensure timely response to referral inquiries, comprehensive assessments, customer needs, compliance with regulations and standards, and effective communication to internal and external customers.

Provides administrative support to their assigned team to ensure that all eligible patients receive care, barriers to admissions and care are addressed and resolved, and agency growth and profitability is maximized.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Must have a current RN license to practice in the state of Indiana. A bachelor’s degree in nursing or a related field is preferred.

Must have at least 2 years of management experience, preferably in an inpatient care setting.

Minimum of five (5) years experience as a professional nurse. It would be desirable for the person in this position to have had several years of experience in the field of hospice and /or home health services.

Knowledge of Federal regulations with regard to Medicare and Medicaid criteria, State Department of Health licensing regulations, and Community Health Accreditation Program Standards.

Must exhibit excellent interpersonal, communication, and public relations skills to effectively interact with staff, patients, family members, physicians, and other members of the healthcare community.

Must be knowledgeable about end-of-life care, including pain/symptom management, and the ability to teach patients/families via phone or in person.

Must hold CPR certification.

Ability to process information, analyze it, provide documentation, and recommend solutions to problems.

Ability to recognize the needs and concerns of others and develop positive relationships.

Must demonstrate a work ethic adequate for performance of this position, including but not limited to attendance, loyalty, and desire for self-improvement.

Ability to cope in a work environment that involves many interruptions and sometimes frustrating situations.

Must have the ability to plan and implement changes and flex between roles as necessary.

Must be able to safely perform the essential functions of the job without posing a direct threat to the health and/or safety of self or others in the workplace.

Must have an active motor vehicle operator license and have access to an automobile with current automobile insurance coverage.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Oversees department activities for the inpatient hospice unit(s).

Directly supervises the inpatient unit nursing staff and administrative assistant. Backfill the roles of direct reports as needed.

Oversight of productivity and overtime for assigned departments with the primary objective of meeting and exceeding program census growth objectives on a monthly, quarterly, and annual basis.

Ensure that all assigned departments’ activities and processes are functioning in a manner that will optimize growth while in compliance with all clinical, operational, and regulatory requirements.

Assist in the development, implementation, and ongoing review of agency policies in all work-related situations.

Collaborates with Business Development to create and to maintain referral accounts.

Participate in business development efforts of the agency. Participates as a representative of the agency as a speaker for community awareness educational activities.

Must hold or obtain within 6 months of hire the certification for Food Safety Manager.

Interviews, hires, orients, and supervises staff for all assigned departments.

Budgetary management- Monitor costs of assigned programs; approve patient-related expenditures. Utilize cost-effective, durable medical equipment and pharmaceutical products through ongoing review and management of contracts for best pricing.

Assist with diagnostic coding of all new admissions; review plan of care to assure it supports diagnostic coding; verify and approve all hospice covered medications, as necessary to support Clinical Team Leaders.

Assists with the development/review/revision of assigned staff job descriptions and development and implementation of job standards.

Participates in the concern process. Ensures follow-up investigations and plans for improvements are completed for hospice inpatient concerns.

Keeps current in all policies, practices, and regulation changes that could impact service delivery.

Update job knowledge and expertise with supervisory recommendations and approval on a yearly basis by participating in conferences and educational opportunities, sharing that information with the agency; reading professional publications; maintaining professional networks; participating in professional organizations.

Participates in quality improvement activities and/or other agency committees or task forces when requested.

Participate in supervisor-on-call and director-on-call rotations as needed.


The published compensation range for this position reflects a good faith estimate of starting base pay for full-time (40 hours per week) employment at the time of posting. The base pay may be higher or lower based on demonstrated job-related experience.
