Job DescriptionJob Description

Projects include renovations at many local public school districts, universities, hospitals, commercial buildings and residential buildings. State funded projects now pay prevailing wage 2 years experience in the asbestos abatement industry required.

GLES abatement / demolition journeymen are responsible for working with asbestos, mold, lead, and other regulated waste while following company and state specific policies and procedures regarding remediation. All GLES team members will participate in industry specific training, many of which will be renewed annually. All certified asbestos abatement workers must maintain: 1- a current 40-hour initial training certificate (or continuing 8-hour refresher) 2- A current State of Michigan asbestos abatement license (Blue Card) 3- A physician's written opinion (physical) 4- and a respirator fit test. Other job responsibilities include:

-Must be able to effectively communicate with field supervisors, safety managers, estimators and project managers to ensure projects are on task and on time

-Perform selective demolition of floors, walls, ceilings, windows, doors, ducts, pipes, various fixtures and finishes within buildings, while carefully protecting existing finishes that are not to be impacted.

-Be able to wear a respirator and personal protective equipment for the entire work day as needed.

-Be able to occasionally lift heavy items (up to 50 lbs).

-Be able to work on ladders, scaffolds and elevated work platforms.

-Perform various maintenance tasks on equipment.

-mobilize and demobilize equipment to and from jobsites.

-Successfully pass a pre-employment drug screen, background check and physical exam.

-Must be able to travel to various constructions site locations around Southeast Michigan (Wayne, Oakland, Washtenaw, Livingston counties). Hotels and gas cards are available for work outside these areas. Washtenaw County is our primary work area.

-Be available for overtime and / or off hours work (many asbestos abatement projects require 2nd or 3rd shift)

-2 years experience required for Journeyman status, apprenticeship program is available for candidates looking to gain industry experience.
