JOB TITLE: Painter

DEPARTMENT: Physical Plant

REPORTS TO: Building Maintenance Supervisor

STATUS: Hourly/Non-Exempt

Scheduled Work Hours: Monday - Friday, 7:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. (Additional hours as specified)

 

Summary of Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

The Building Maintenance Staff are responsible for the safe, professional, reliable, efficient, environmentally-sound, and cost-effective maintenance of the buildings on the Loomis Chaffee campus.  Specific duties include:

 

Specific Responsibilities

·   Maintain campus building’s interior and exterior surfaces as it pertains to paint and other finishes.

·   Properly prepare surfaces for the application of paint, staining, texturing, etc.

·   Properly set-up materials and equipment for the safe completion of work, while ensuring surrounding areas are properly protected.

·   Perform repair and maintenance work on:  glass & glazing, plaster, sheetrock & taping, masonry, paperhanging, and furniture refinishing.

·   Assist and provide recommendations for the planning of maintenance of surfaces and finishes to improve the condition, appearance, and life expectancy of school buildings and structures.

·   Support the activities of the Building Maintenance Department, staff, other personnel, and contractors to ensure effective and efficient maintenance of campus facilities.

·   Support other Physical Plant departments to successively meet deadlines and support the Loomis Chaffee community and the school’s mission.

·   Support and assist with special school events as required.

 

Compliance and Other

·   Abide by all standards for safety and health guidelines, environmental regulations, quality, and productivity by following established policies and procedures.

·   Perform seasonal tasks as needed, including shoveling, clearing snow and ice from walks, stairs, and pathways.

·   Perform other work and additional duties as assigned, including assisting other Physical Plant operations to complete assignments and being available for emergencies and scheduled “off-hour” work as needed.

 

Education and Experience Requirements:

·   High School diploma or equivalent required.

·   Knowledge, skills and abilities typically associated with three (3) years of surface preparation, painting, finishes, and applications experience.

·   3+ years of experience in building maintenance or construction operation in multi-trades (plaster, taping and sheetrock, multi-surface preparation, and other building interior/exterior finishing)

·   Understanding of various skilled trades (carpentry, roofing, flooring, masonry, doors, and windows & hardware).

 

Skills, Knowledge and Abilities Required:

The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate the following skills:

·   Demonstrate proper judgment in behavior, speech, and dress in a neat, clean, and appropriate professional manner for the assignment and work setting.

·   Ability to work effectively with minimal supervision, have initiative, and be a self-starter.

·   Demonstrated good organizational/priority management skills, and oral communication skills.

·   Ability to analyze situations and information, consider the risks and implications and implement a plan of action.

·   Must be able to work as a team member and effectively with other assigned personnel including faculty, contractors, and students.

·   Ability to meet the physical requirements of the job including but not limited to walking around campus, climbing stairs, ladders, scaffolds or platforms, lifting/carrying heavy objects and working in confined spaces.

·   Willingness to perform other work as required by the department and the Physical Plant.

 

Licenses, Certifications, Bonding and/or Testing Required:

·   Must possess a valid Driver’s License.

·   Training and/or certification in handling of lead paint and lead concealment, or willingness to obtain the same.

·   Pre-employment background check required.

 

Working Conditions:

·   Conditions will vary from indoor, outdoor, and field environments in all weather conditions.

·   Have the ability to regularly lift and/or move up to ten (10) pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to fifty (50) pounds, and occasionally lift over fifty (50+) pounds.

·   Must be able to work off a lift, scaffolding, and/or ladder (over 30ft above the floor in some cases).

·   Have the ability to consistently stand/walk for up to 8hrs per day, frequently and repeatedly bending, twisting, reaching, kneeling.

·   Must have a satisfactory work record including good attendance.
