Our client is a successful and growing privately-held regional, industrial leader. We are seeking a business-focused, collaborative HR Director to lead the HR team and function.

 

Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, the HR Director is responsible for overseeing the Human Resources Department in all aspects of employee relations, recruiting, benefits, payroll, legal & compliance, while focusing on values, ambition and development of future company leaders. The HR Director will build strong advisory relationships with key business leaders, on a local and regional level, to develop a deep understanding of their business objectives, product offerings, people, and challenges. The role will initiate and cultivate new insights and drive excellence in the company’s people operations and engage across industries and external networks, to stay relevant and adjust strategies in a changing environment.

 

The ideal candidate is a team player, coach and leader and has prior HR leadership experience in a successful, family-owned, privately-held company. Prior industry experience in a Transpiration, Logistics, Supply Chain, Operations or Manufacturing organization is highly desirable. Prior experience leading exempt HR professionals, knowledge of multi-state labor laws and exceptional employee relations knowledge, collaboration, communication and business skills required.

 

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

  • Plan, lead, develop and implement policies, processes, training, initiatives and surveys to support the organization’s HR compliance and strategy needs.
  • Oversee the strategy and administration of HR programs including compensation, benefits, leave programs, disciplinary matters, disputes and investigations, performance and talent management, productivity, recognition, morale, and training and development. Effectively partner with external HR suppliers to resolve issues.
  • Support and coach HR team members on payroll, benefits, recruiting, compliance, employee engagement and daily HR challenges.
  • Manage the HR budget and other financial measures.
  • Strategically participate in the development of HR plans and programs.
  • Participate in negotiating collective bargaining agreements; liaise with union personnel and assist with interpretations.
  • Translate the strategic and tactical business plans into strategic and operational plans.
  • Evaluate and advise on the impact of long-range planning of new programs and strategies which impact the attraction, retention, mitigation of attrition, development and retention of staff.
  • Develop progressive and proactive compensation and benefits programs to provide motivation, incentives and rewards for effective performance. Provide programs which promote an employee and company partnership for the short and long-range health and welfare protection of employees.
  • Enhance and/or develop, implement and enforce HR policies and procedures of the organization by way of systems that will improve the overall operation and effectiveness of the organization.
  • Continually assess the competitiveness of all HR programs and practices against relevant and comparable companies, industries and markets.
  • Understand and apply relevant employment laws in multi-site / multi-state environment including NY, CT, MA, NJ and PA.
  • Facilitate professional development, training and certification activities for HR staff.
  • Manage all aspects of the Covid-19 company-wide protocols, as well as, monitoring associated with employee vaccination, communications, safety work environments, etc.
  • Special projects and other duties as assigned.
  • Maintain in-depth knowledge of relevant state and federal HR and legal requirements to mitigate legal risks and ensure regulatory compliance. Partner with Legal advisors as needed.
  • Establish credibility throughout the organization with leadership, management and employees. Maintain confidentiality and ethical standards.

 

POSITION LOCATION AND RELOCATION:

Onsite office-based role in Westchester, NY. No relocation benefits provided. Local, qualified New York metro area candidates will be given preference and priority. Qualified candidates willing to self-relocate to the area will also be considered.

 

POSITION REQUIREMENTS INCLUDE:

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources Management, Business or closely related area.
  • SHRM Certified Professional (SHRM-CP) or SHRM Senior Certified Professional (SHRM-SCP), or equivalent, preferred.
  • 10+ years of experience as an HR advisor and strategy partner to executive leadership with a focus on strategic planning and talent management issues, guiding leadership with their talent management strategies through periods of significant change.
  • Expertise in a variety of HR areas including compensation, disability management, organizational development, performance management, employee and union relations and federal and regional state (NY, NJ, CT, MA, PA) employment laws.
  • Prior HR leadership experience in a family-owned, privately-held company with multi-state / multi-site responsibility for a geographically distributed employee population of more than 500 full-time employees.
  • Experience in a Transportation, Logistics, Operations, Industrial, Supply Chain or Manufacturing organization is strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to learn the business quickly, understand key business drivers and develop solutions with business leaders that get results and foster a positive work environment.
  • Experienced partnering with external HR suppliers to resolve issues.
  • Must be a detail-oriented self-starter with the ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proven experience in developing, implementing and monitoring HR metrics through dash-boarding and reporting across the organization.
  • Ability to travel onsite to various locations throughout the Northeast US, as required.
  • Highly trusted as a professional and ethical HR leader in handling confidential and sensitive information. Able to build trust with senior leadership, managers, employees and team members.
  • Excellent verbal, active listening, written, interpersonal and presentation communication skills.
  • Bilingual in English-Spanish. (desirable)
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) software and modular HRIS based systems / platforms for payroll and benefits administration, employee development, compliance, on-boarding, recruitment and other HR functions.

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS:
Travel to local and regional onsite locations throughout the Northeast US required. Approved incurred travel costs reimbursed.

 

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS INFORMATION:

  • Base Salary Range: $125K - $140K annually, commensurate with experience and qualifications.
  • Variable Pay: 20% annual performance incentive target
