Job DescriptionJob DescriptionVPG Construction is looking for a Construction Estimator to work closely with contractors, and other operational personnel to provide the most accurate and comprehensive financial and budget analysis.  

Job Responsibilities
  • Review and understand project plans, specifications, and other relevant documents
  • Collaborate with project managers, architects, engineers, and subcontractors to gather necessary information
  • Analyze project requirements and break down the scope of work into specific tasks
  • Estimate material, labor, equipment, and subcontractor costs based on historical data, industry standards, and current market conditions
  • Utilize construction estimating software and tools to enhance accuracy and efficiency
  • Perform detailed quantity takeoffs from construction drawings to determine the amount of materials required for each project component
  • Verify and validate takeoff quantities with project stakeholders
  • Obtain quotes and pricing from suppliers and subcontractors
  • Evaluate vendor and subcontractor bids to ensure competitiveness and compliance with project specifications
  • Negotiate with suppliers and subcontractors to secure favorable pricing and terms
  • Collaborate with procurement teams to establish cost-effective agreements
  • Prepare comprehensive and accurate cost estimates, including a breakdown of costs for labor, materials, equipment, overhead, and profit margins
  • Develop detailed project budgets for review by senior management and clients
  • Identify potential risks and uncertainties that may impact project costs
  • Develop contingency plans and risk mitigation strategies
  • Maintain accurate and organized documentation of cost estimates, quotes, and relevant correspondence
  • Update and revise estimates as project details evolve
  • Present cost estimates to internal teams, clients, and other stakeholders
  • Address inquiries and provide clarification on cost-related matters
  • Stay informed about industry trends, construction methods, and market conditions
  • Continuously seek opportunities to improve estimating processes and methodologies
  •  Perform other required tasks as assigned
Job Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, architecture, or a related field
  • Experience in Commerical Construction preferred
  • Proven experience as a Construction Estimator
  • Experience in Procore,  Microsoft Projects, or similar Construction Estimating package is a plus
  • Strong analytical and mathematical skills
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills
  • Attention to detail and accuracy
  • Knowledge of local building codes and regulations
  • Ability to work in a collaborative team environment
  • Must be able to work weekends if workload requires.

Construction Estimator Qualifications and Skills:

  • Strong math skills including algebra, geometry, and basic arithmetic
  • Ability to navigate specifications and plans
  • Proficiency in demonstrating proposals and projects
  • Ability to handle multiple assignments at once
  • Knowledge of the latest building codes
  • Close attention to detail
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • A bachelor’s degree in mathematics, architecture, or a similar field is preferred
  • Certificate in general construction, roofing, electrician, etc.
  • At least 3 -5 years of related experience is required
