Description

The primary responsibility of the Heavy Equipment Operator is to safely operate heavy equipment, such as loaders, grinders, shredders and screens to manufacture compost and other soil amendments.

Essential Responsibilities

  1. Safely and effectively operate various forms of heavy equipment to move product and feed shredders, grinders and screens.
  2. Safely load product onto roll off containers or walking floor trailers.
  3. Perform daily maintenance and safety checks of equipment.
  4. Maintain a clean and organized working environment.
  5. Observe and comply with all applicable safety regulations, rules, policies and procedures.
  6. Maintain collaborative working relationship with drivers, operators and coworkers.
  7. Participate in external, Department and Company-wide trainings to increase skill sets and improve service.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Knowledge of:

  • Heavy equipment operation.
  • Federal, state and local job site health and safety rules, regulations and best practices.

Ability to:

  • Maintain a positive attitude with coworkers.
  • Proactively establish trust and credibility with coworkers by maintaining accountability.
  • Contribute to the team dynamic by promoting inclusion, support and collaboration amongst coworkers.
  • Take initiative, self-manage time and productivity through multitasking.

  • Think independently and creatively to problem solve.

Education, Training & Experience

  1. High school diploma or GED preferred.
  2. One year of related experience using heavy equipment required.
  3. Experience in the resource recovery industry a plus.
  4. Certifications a plus.
