Job DescriptionJob Description

The Hillsboro Antique Mall is seeking qualified cashiers to join our team. We are looking for enthusiastic, dependable, and friendly cashiers who have extensive customer service or retail experience. The cashier position consists of using a cash register and other related equipment to process cash, credit, and check transactions, as well providing an excellent customer service experience.

Cashier Skills & Responsibilities

  • Provides a positive customer experience with fair, friendly, and courteous service

  • Accurately records purchases in point of sale system and operates a cash register

  • Processes customer transactions by handling cash, check, and charge payments and making change for customers

  • Itemizes and totals purchases by recording prices, dealer codes, taxable and nontaxable items

  • Receives rent payments and provides previews of dealer sales

  • Balances cash drawers by counting cash at beginning and end of shifts

  • Resolves customer issues and answers questions

  • Negotiates offers between customers and dealers

  • Handles, wraps, and bags customer merchandise with care

  • Opens and closes the front desk according to company procedure

  • Restocks front desk supplies and gift merchandise

  • Answers incoming calls and direct customers as needed

  • Coordinates between management and floor staff

  • Understands company policies and procedures and serves as a point person for all customer and dealer inquiries

Qualifications

  • Must have a high degree of integrity, be dependable, and participate as a team member to achieve common goals

  • Attention to detail

  • Friendly and positive attitude

  • Excellent communication skills

  • Basic math skills

  • Basic level computer literacy and use of a 10-key calculator

  • Proficient at typing, must be able to demonstrate ability to type without looking at a keyboard

  • Ability to be on your feet for extended periods (5 hours without a break, 7-8 hours max)

  • Ability to bend and lift heavy items (up to 30 pounds)

  • Must be able to work weekends and holidays (including Christmas)

Experience

  • High School diploma or equivalent

  • 2-3 years experience in retail or other customer service role required

  • Experience in a cash room and as a dedicated cashier is strongly preferred

  • Thorough knowledge or previous experience of cash handling and counting, as well as settling revenue and assets

  • Negotiation experience a plus
