Career Strategy Consultants is seeking a Metallurgist for a large manufacturing company near Hammond, IN. This is a full-time permanent (Direct Hire) position. Our client will offer a highly competitive base salary plus an extremely lucrative annual bonus structure. The Metallurgist supervises the Metallurgical Lab, reviews customer specifications and inquiries for the sales department. He is also responsible for the accuracy of Material Certifications and establishing new receipts for heat treatment.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Responsible for all activities of the Metallurgical Lab including staffing, training, scheduling, supplies, and calibration of equipment.
• Direct metallurgical investigations and services for our customers and raw material suppliers.
• Finalizes and approves all metallurgical investigations in an expeditious manner.
• Manage and direct all trial orders. Maintain accurate records and communicate with all involved parties.
• Develop, assign, review and update processing parameters for all furnace activities including quench and temper treatments to meet all specifications and customer requirements.
• Provide an effective and timely service to Sales by answering inquiries and interfacing with all other departments to secure correct answers to inquiries.
• Work directly with customers, production and mills regarding quality issues, complaints, and failures in accordance with established goals and objectives.
• Recommend and implement as needed modifications to process routes and procedures to improve overall quality.
• Provide routine reporting monitoring typical quality mixes.
• Provide full technical and metallurgical support for Sales in obtaining new customers and providing support to current customers.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

• An excellent understanding of steel mill production, cold finished processing and metallurgy.
• The ability to critically think and communicate effectively with others, verbally and in writing.
• The ability to develop and maintain productive relationships with colleagues, subordinates, vendors, and others.
• The ability to multi-task and engage in detailed analyses, including statistics.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Bachelor's degree in Metallurgy or Materials Science
• Technical/engineering/metallurgical background
• Managerial skills
• 2-4 years experience in a related field
