The Village Bakery & Café needs Pastry Chefs. The opportunity requires a person of good character, with a passion for bread and pastry baking, and strong leadership skills. Our products are hand-made daily with only the best ingredients. No added preservatives. This is a great opportunity for an energetic go-getter that really wants to make their mark. Applicants must be friendly, motivated and diligent in their work.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Improving our pastry systems and processes at the commissary and in the bakeries
  • Testing and creating holiday and seasonal menus and menu specials along with our Head Baker and our Culinary team
  • Lead training of all pastry items in commissary
  • Leading the bakery in pastry skill and knowledge
  • Use and maintain our inventory system and standard order guides to control inventory based on bakery demands
  • Maintaining our high quality standards in pastries through regular tastings at both the commissary and the bakeries
  • Helping with the training and roll-out processes for new pastry items alongside the Culinary team

Position Requirements

  • Positive attitude and desire to learn and grow
  • Strong work ethic, team player
  • Ability to lift 50lb bags of flour and stand for 8 hours
  • Baking experience preferred, but not required
  • Ability to do “on the fly” math
  • Minimum of 1-2 years experience
  • Knowledge of food preparation and presentation methods, techniques and quality standards
  • Great attention to detail
  • Knowledge of sanitation principles
  • Availability early mornings and weekends
  • Certificate or degree in culinary arts preferred but not required
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Early morning availability (30 hours per week)
  • At least 18 years old with reliable transportation
