General Summary

Collaborating with the Chief Executive Officer and the leadership teams, the Chief Strategy Officer is a strategic partner in guiding the strategic direction and the decisions leading to the long-term success of the organization. Essential Functions

  • Collaborates with leadership in the strategic-planning process, builds collaborative relationships across the bank, and establishes transparency and accountability for all strategic initiatives.
  • Responsible for driving strategic operational and financial operations initiatives.
  • Excellent emotional intelligence with an entrepreneurial spirit.
  • Serve as key advisor to the Chief Executive Officer and the board of directors – accountable for planning and monitoring financial performance against annual targets and collaborating across business units to optimize performance.
  • Actively participate in Strategic Planning Process and be a critical voice in charting strategic focus for the assigned business units.
  • Support and facilitate M&A activities as a key component of growth, ensuring financial models reflect appropriate risk and return.
  • Challenge finance structures across our business units – to best align with our growth objectives.
  • Ensure a high-functioning finance organization, establish and constantly improve business processes and procedures in support of the strategic direction for a multi-product organization.
  • Help lead incentive system design and management, partnering with HR, executives, and the board of directors.
  • Drive the financial analysis process with full comprehension of key performance indicators, operating trends, and performance assessment.
  • Manage the organization’s capital planning and appropriation process.
  • Support executives in analyzing and diagnosing key performance indicators (KPI's) and productivity metrics to optimize their operational results over time.
  • Ensure that appropriate systems, policies, budgets, and control procedures are in place to support sound, legal practices in adherence with banking regulations.
  • Establish strong and effective relationships across our business units.
  • Develop a deep understanding of organization’s business, including its risks, opportunities, and competitive environment.
  • Responsible for the overall Accounting, Project Management, Business Intelligence, and Operations functions.
  • Business unit leader for the Directors of business unit profit centers.

Managing, Mentoring & Coaching

  • Manages, mentors, and coaches assigned team members.
  • Consults with the CEO and Human Resources on hiring, discipline, promotion, transfer, and termination decisions for assigned team members
  • Engages in goal setting and performance management, including conducting annual performance appraisals, for assigned team members

Required Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities

  • Must have 10 years’ experience in strategic planning, business management, corporate leadership and financial decision making.
  • Previous CEO and/or CFO experience preferred.
  • Bachelor’s degree in a business-related field; Master of Business Administration preferred.
  • Must have demonstrated proficiency in management strategies, financial accounting, human resource planning, analytical research, leadership and strategic planning, and implementation of new technologies.
  • Ability to lead teams and successfully manage others within a highly collaborative organization.
  • Must be self-directed and able to work independently.
  • A background of external reporting experience.
  • Previous experience with mergers and acquisitions is a strong plus.
Working Conditions
  • Generally good, with little exposure to noise, extreme temperatures, dust or other adverse factors
  • Travel within the Bank Independent network required. Mostly day travel with occasional overnight travel
  • Highly collaborative organization that values being face-to-face. This position will be on-site.
