Work under the supervision of the Laboratory Information Systems Coordinator/CLS.
Contributes to the efficient operation of the Pathology Department by providing clerical and data entry support
including patient registration and collection of required patient information for testing and billing purposes.
Prepares reference laboratory specimens. Generates numerous required laboratory reports. Serves as a resource
person for other hospital staff by answering questions and solving problems for peers and others. Performs other
clerical duties as assigned.
1. Performs patient registrations for testing and billing purposes.
2. Processes requisitions for specimens sent to reference laboratories.
3. Generates collection lists for the Technologist Assistants and Clinical Laboratory Scientists.
4. Generates and types reports, correspondence and procedures.
5. Responds to general telephone inquiries concerning the activities and operation of the
Laboratory by referring to established procedure or by referring the inquiry to the appropriate
person.
6. Opens and appropriately distributes departmental mail.
7. Orders and maintains inventory of office supplies and equipment.
8. Adheres to the established Hospital safety standards by following safety procedures and reporting
any unsafe conditions.
9. Applies the Hospital’s Policies and Procedures regarding guest relations.
10. Performs other duties as assigned or required
HS Education or GED
Must have good working knowledge of billing and insurance procedures, computer functions and uses, medical terminology, and general office skills that require exposure to or education in all office procedures
