Job Summary

Teachers will model all Little Building Blocks policies, procedures, and processes within his/her classroom. The Teacher will provide care and guidance for student within our center. They will implement and facilitate classroom lesson plans and activities. Teachers will support and follow the Mission, Values and Philosophy of Little Building Blocks.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

Education and Curriculum

  • Plans and implements high quality Frog Street curriculum activities and lesson plans that promote children’s social, emotional, physical, and cognitive development. Implements program schedule for the classroom, outdoor time, meals, snacks, and special activities.
  • Uses higher than average positive guidance techniques that exceed state regulations, counsels’ children when social, academic or adjustment problems arise. Implement and model Conscious Discipline in the classroom.
  • Keeps accurate and current records of each child’s developmental milestones, student accidents, anecdotal records, and attendance in a way that exceeds Little Building Blocks expectations.
  • Establishes a classroom with developmentally appropriate room arrangement, décor, and learning environment.
  • Plans formal and informal parent conferences.
  • Ensure that daily list of activities is posted for parents. Maintains classroom bulletin boards.
  • Has strong working knowledge of Kansas Minimum Standards as they pertain to center operations.

Interactions with Parents, Staff, and Director

  • Meets with prospective families and communicates appropriately with potential new customers. Supports the Center Director, Director of Education and Director of Administration with parent communication.
  • Observes, records, and reports to the Director of Education any significant behavior of children that could adversely affect the quality of care provided.
  • Actively participates in school events, staff training sessions, meetings, and programs.
  • Immediately notify the Center Director of needed repairs to the building, play area, equipment or toys throughout the facility. Ensures that children are not exposed to equipment or situations that could affect their health or safety.
  • Accepts temporary work assignments in the event regularly scheduled staff is not available, such as answering the phones, cooking, assisting in management of program.

Health and Safety

  • Implement appropriate emergency procedures in the event of fire, tornado, chemical leak, or other emergency situations.
  • Administers CPR/First Aid or other appropriate emergency procedures in the event of serious student accidents or emergencies.
  • Properly maintains educational materials and equipment; ensures that children are using equipment in an appropriate manner.
  • Keeps classrooms and other play areas safe, neat, and clean.

Reporting Relationships

  • The Teacher reports directly to the Director of Education, he/she also takes direction from other center management personnel.

Qualifications:

  • Applicants must be a minimum of 18 years of age.
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • One year minimum of childcare center experience required.
  • All candidates must pass a KBI fingerprint background check.
  • Provide a health assessment with a negative TB test.
  • CPR & First Aid certified.
  • Additional training requirements per KDHE will be discussed at the interview.
  • If you have KDHE-approved hours, please list them on your resume.
