Job description

The Design Tech II, designs new products based on customer requirements and improves upon the performance and design of existing products.

• Finalize models of moderate scope and complexity
• Assist design engineers on complex projects with guidance
• May work with potential customers to understand and document project requirements
• May create 2D drawings and details of all modules, assemblies, sub-assemblies, and parts as defined by Spika and/or customer standards and procedures
• Create DXF files and accompanying PDF files for submission to outsourced processors or in-house CNC machines
• Create bills of material for Purchasing and Inventory
• Create parts manuals for projects completing production
• Review and approve accuracy of solid models and travelers created by others
• Identify and develop operational, maintenance, and safety requirements and instructions for products
• Monitor owned projects through drafting, production, and beyond to facilitate resolution of issues
• Rapidly resolve Engineering Change Orders as required
• Participate in project reviews to improve future designs

Competenices

To perform this job successfully, an individual should demonstrate the following competencies:

• Strong working knowledge of SolidWorks and solid modeling techniques
• Sound working knowledge of 2D drafting principles, techniques, and standards
• Understanding of sound design and engineering principles and practices, exhibiting skill and competence in functionality, aesthetics, balance, and manufacturability
• Understanding of structural engineering, including the ability size components, understand structural reports, and coordination with Design Engineer on strength requirements
• Ability to break down problems into components and recognize interrelationships; ability to make sound, well-informed, and objective decisions
• Ability to organize work, set priorities, and determine resource requirements; ability to determine necessary sequence of activities needed to achieve goals
• Ability to stay focused on project at hand, while balancing numerous ongoing projects and demands at once
