ONEIDA COMMUNITY MANSION HOUSE
POSITION: Maintenance Worker
CATEGORY: Part-Time, 20-30 hours per week
CONTEXT: The 93,000 square foot Mansion House is a National Historic Landmark constructed between 1861 and 1914. It is owned and operated by Oneida Community Mansion House (OCMH). OCMH is a non-profit educational organization chartered in 1987 by the New York State Board of Regents. The building houses a museum, residential apartments, overnight lodging and banquet and meeting space. The total property encompasses 200 acres including the Oneida Community Cemetery, historic gardens and grounds, and the country's first corporate golf course.
PURPOSE: This position exists to provide primary preservation, maintenance, care and renovation of the buildings, grounds, tools & equipment.
RELATIONSHIPS: This position reports to the Director of Buildings and Grounds. Position requires contact with staff, residents, overnight guests, visitors, volunteers, and public including neighboring municipalities.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Perform routine maintenance procedures throughout the building and grounds.
Perform daily inspections of life-safety systems and boiler systems.
Report needs for repairs of building and grounds.
Perform carpentry, electrical and plumbing renovations/repairs.
Preparation work to include patching, priming, and painting of the building’s interior and exterior spaces.
Assists in moves and deliveries and setting up for special events.
Perform regular work in the gardens and grounds such as weeding, raking, tree pruning, trimming, lawn mowing, path maintenance, shoveling, weed eating, composting, etc.
Use and maintain power equipment such as lawn mowers (both riding and pushing), edgers, weed eaters, snow blowers, compact tractors, utility vehicles and chain saws.
Removal of snow and ice from entryways, walkways, porches and parking lots.
On call responsibilities.
REQUIREMENTS
Must be able to follow instructions, work independently as well as part of a team and practice safe work habits.
Have experience in most building trades – carpentry, masonry, electrical, drywall/plastering, plumbing, and painting.
Physically able to stand for long periods and walk up and down stairs.
Able to perform physically demanding work, work on ladders and scaffolding.
Able to use and maintain power equipment.
Able to lift at least 50 pounds.
Have a valid New York Driver’s license.
Able to communicate well in written and verbal forms.
High School Diploma/GED.
