Position Summary:

The Solar Technician II will be a mid-level field service technician for CSS’ operations and maintenance of solar facilities. The Solar Technician II is responsible for leading work, representing CSS in the field, and the safe and timely completion of all service obligations.


Essential Functions:

  • Troubleshooting and repairing utility scale solar generators
  • Lead commissioning, quality assurance inspection, or preventative maintenance work as needed
  • Provide timely Field Service Reports back to Operations staff for delivery to client
  • Provide on-the-job training to less experienced field staff
  • Be a leader in safe and proper work practices
  • Assist with vegetative maintenance as needed
  • Ensure a premium level of customer service
  • Out of town stays are sometimes required

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Understanding of principles of electrical theory and photovoltaic power generation.
  • Understanding & experience in the operation and concepts relating to electrical and mechanical trade work.
  • Prioritizes safety daily and be able to lead site safety meetings, analyze job hazards, and provide prompt resolution
  • Working knowledge and experience operating under OSHA 1910.269, NFPA 70E, and 70B
  • Proficiency reading technical specification documents, site plans, & electrical schematics
  • Comfort working up to 1,500 VDC, 600Vac, and operating MV switchgear (GOAB, Transformer switching, Recloser operation)
  • Clear verbal and written communication skills
  • General computer, network, and technology proficiency
  • Team oriented attitude
  • Assertive enough to give direction and humble enough to take direction
  • Value staff development and organizational excellence


Minimum Qualifications:

  • Valid driver’s license with satisfactory driving record in order to operate a company vehicle
  • 2 years of field experience in utility solar PV or 4 years of related electrical experience
  • Located within 20 miles of Goldsboro, NC


Preferred Qualifications:

  • First-Aid/CPR/AED certified
  • NFPA 70E certified
  • OSHA 10 certified
  • OEM certified training on one or more inverter systems
  • Commissioning or maintenance experience


Physical Demands:

  • Ability to lift and carry up to 30 pounds frequently
  • Ability to work at high heights with the use of a safety harness


Work Environment:

  • ~90% of time spent in-field at utility scale solar facilities
  • Exposure to weather, extreme heat or cold
  • Exposure to native plants and, occasionally, animals
  • Exposure to electrical hazards
