Sr. Controls Engineer

Location: Round Lake and Greater Chicagoland Area

Contract to Hire: 12-month contract with potential to go to a permanent hire

 

In this role you will be responsible for leading the detailed hardware and software design of process automation control systems projects, as well as, defining architecture requirements, developing detailed software design specifications, programming PLC and SCADA applications, configuring thin client server applications, configuring process based historian databases, tuning control loops, providing control system startup services, troubleshooting existing control systems and providing control system qualifications. This is a fantastic opportunity to lead projects from concept through commissioning phases.

 

Key Responsibilities:

 

•        Provides application/control systems design and development for systems of varying complexity.

 

•        Develops and evaluates alternative system solutions that meet stated requirements.

 

•        Modifies program/system logic involving multiple systems and subsystems.

 

•        Develops proficiency in several programming languages and control device networks for PLCs, PCs.

 

•        Interacts with customers to gain an understanding of the business environment.

 

•        Defines scope, plans and deliverables for assigned work.

 

•        Work successfully in a matrix structure; focused strongly on customer service and personal growth.

 

•        Chicagoland travel 10-25%.

 

 

Education and Experience Requirements:

 

·       A Bachelor's Degree in Chemical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, or related Engineering fields, coupled with at least 5 years of relevant experience, or an equivalent blend of education and experience.

 

·       Previous work experience in the validation of pharmaceutical and biotech systems.

 

·       Hands-on experience with Rockwell products, including ControlLogix, PLC5, SLC500, RSView, PanelView Plus, RSBizWare, and RSBatch.

 

·       Preferred experience in implementing meticulous control system electrical design packages.

 

 

 

Knowledge and Skill Requirements:

 

 

·       Proficiency with other PLC platforms such as GE, Siemens, Modicon, and diverse SCADA and HMI packages like iFix and Wonderware.

 

•         Proficiency in troubleshooting control systems, coupled with a firm grasp of process controls, is imperative.

 

·       Profound understanding of control system networks, encompassing Ethernet, ControlNet, DeviceNet, and more.

 

·       Prior exposure to GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices) and validation procedures is desirable.

 

·       Knowledge of S88 Batch standards and practical experience in implementing batch systems are valuable assets.

 

·       Strong collaboration, communication, and Leadership skills required.

 

·       Background in instrumentation is advantageous.

 

·       Possession of a valid driver's license is mandatory.

 

·       Must possess exceptional written and verbal communication aptitude.
