Job Purpose

  • Administers the library within the framework of the library’s vision and mission, policies, goals and objectives, and budget.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Maintains the library collection.
  • Creates and conducts educational, outreach, and fundraising activities, in conjunction with the Womelsdorf Community Library Board of Trustees (WCL/BT), to benefit the library and its patrons.
  • Makes budget recommendations to the WCL/BT. Prepares and maintains accurate statistical data about the library and its patronage, and completes timely reports regarding the library’s operation, as required under Pennsylvania State Law, and by the Berks County Public Library System and the WCL/BT.
  • Manages all library staff and volunteers, collaborating with the WCL/BT when hiring new personnel
  • Provides training for new staff and continuing education opportunities for existing staff.
  • Conveys enthusiasm for the mission and vision of the Womelsdorf Community Library with staff, volunteers, and patrons.
  • Provides a positive work environment for employees and volunteers.

Educational Requirements

  • Preferred: BS Degree
  • Required: AA Degree, AS Degree, or 2 years of college curriculum completed. 9 units of college-level Library Science education are required (course work can be completed during the first year of employment, with tuition reimbursement available), to obtain a State of Pennsylvania Library Assistant Certification.

Prior Experience

  • Minimum of 2-3 years of work experience in a professional setting. Library experience desired.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

  • Thorough knowledge of computer productivity software (E.g., Microsoft Office or Google Workspace).
  • Able to create and modify spreadsheets, and write, edit and track changes in documents.
  • Must have the strength and compassion to manage a team of employees.
  • Must be able to learn quickly, and rapidly put information gained into practice.
  • Must be able to easily lift 10 pounds above their head and lift 30 pounds from the floor to a tabletop.
  • General knowledge of library information systems is preferred.
