Job Summary

Job Summary: As an Orthodontist Assistant, you will play a crucial role in assisting orthodontists in providing exceptional dental care and ensuring the smooth operation of the orthodontic practice. Your responsibilities will include patient care, maintaining a supportive and welcoming environment for patients.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Patient Preparation: Prepare treatment rooms and ensure they are properly sanitized and stocked with necessary instruments and supplies.
  • Assist with Procedures: Assist the orthodontist during patient examinations, orthodontic procedures, and ensuring patient comfort and safety.
  • X-Ray and Imaging: Take and develop dental x-rays and intraoral images as directed by the orthodontist.
  • Orthodontic Appliance Maintenance: Assist in the fitting, adjustment, and removal of braces, retainers, and other orthodontic appliances.
  • Patient Education: Educate patients on proper oral hygiene practices and provide instructions on caring for orthodontic appliances.
  • Records Management: Maintain accurate patient records, treatment notes, and appointment schedules, ensuring compliance with privacy regulations.
  • Sterilization and Infection Control: Follow strict protocols for instrument sterilization and infection control to maintain a clean and safe clinical environment.
  • Administrative Support: Handle front office tasks such as scheduling appointments, answering phone calls, and managing patient records.

Requirements and Qualifications

  • Certification: Completion of an accredited Orthodontic Assistant program or dental assisting program, with a valid state certification or license where required.
  • X-Ray Certification: X-ray certification or the ability to obtain one.
  • Clinical Skills: Proficiency in dental assisting techniques, including orthodontic procedures and appliance handling.
  • Communication: Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to interact with patients and team members effectively.
  • Organizational Skills: Strong organizational abilities to manage patient records, appointments, and administrative tasks.
  • Attention to Detail: A keen eye for detail to ensure precision in orthodontic procedures and record-keeping.
  • Team Player: Ability to work collaboratively with orthodontists, other dental professionals, and support staff.
  • Compliance: Adherence to all relevant health and safety regulations and compliance with clinic policies and procedures.
