A Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) plays a crucial role in assisting behavioral analysis teams. Their primary responsibilities include implementing treatment plans developed by Board Certified Behavior Analysts. Here are the key duties and qualifications for an RBT:

  1. Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Clinical Skills Instruction: Under the guidance of a Board-Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA), the RBT provides clinical skills instruction and behavior reduction protocols based on the principles of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA).
    • Patient Interaction: The RBT works directly with children with autism and related developmental disabilities in various settings such as homes, clinics, communities, and schools.
    • Treatment Plan Implementation: They consistently implement treatment plans (as directed by BCBAs) and prepare program materials covering domains like toilet training, communication, social skills, and adaptive living skills.

  2. Qualifications and Skills:

    • Certification: RBTs must hold a valid RBT certification.
    • Collaboration: They collaborate with patients, clients, and their family members.
    • Ability to implement discrete trials and other approved interventions.
