PURPOSE:  Under the general supervision of the Specialty Court Administrator, the Program Supervisor is responsible for in accordance with grant requirements and County policies and working with stakeholders.  The Program Supervisor will provide excellent leadership to employees and serve as a full member of the Specialty Court decision-making team.  The right candidate will have a desire to advocate for and be an ally to those who are being treated for a substance use or mental health disorder.

ABILITIES, KNOWLEDGE, AND SKILLS:
 
  • Desire to work with justice impacted populations, as well as a passion to help historically marginalized populations. 
  • Base knowledge of substance abuse treatment, mental health treatment, child welfare services, and correctional (probation/parole) strategies to be effective. 
  • Knowledge of evidence-based treatment strategies is a bonus.
  • True leadership skills that have been proven in prior leadership positions with positive outcomes.
  • Possesses excellent oral and written communication skills, advanced organizational skills, and exceptional interpersonal and problem-solving skills.
  • Basic computer skills including applications such as Microsoft Excel, Adobe Professional, and Microsoft Power-Point. 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND/OR WORKING CONDITIONS:

Work is performed primarily in an office environment.  Tasks involve those normally associated with an office environment.
      
PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The following duties are normal for this position.  These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive.  Other duties may be required and assigned.
 
  1. Oversees daily operations in Specialty Courts.
  2. Manages small caseload and facilitates case coordination and communication.
  3. Provides testimony regarding case status, as required.
  4. Learns, teaches, oversees, and applies best practice standards and client-centered approaches. 
  5. Navigates the success of a variety of collaborative teams that include court staff, governmental agency partners, and community agency partners.
  6. Attends pre-planning meetings, supervises, and evaluates our team of Specialty Court professionals to ensure efficient, effective, and inclusive program operations.
  7. Organizes and leads all policy development and team meetings.
  8. Ensures compliance with best practices and makes recommendations on behalf of the decision-making teams.
  9. Disseminates program information to targeted audiences including staff, system partners, funders, and the general public, as needed.
  10. Responsible for record keeping, statistical data entering and personnel issues.
  11. Collects, maintains and organizes program records, participant data and program statistics with the assistance of case managers and other team members.  Responsible for accurate input into systems.
  12. Researches and organizes frequent team training to build proficiencies.  Some trainings may include stakeholders or the public.
  13. Compiles and maintains statistical information for grant reporting and evaluation.
  14. Assists in organizing graduation ceremonies and alumni events.
  15. Attends statewide and national conferences and presents at conferences, as required.
  16. Participates and trains in ongoing diversity, equity, inclusion and cultural awareness training, and promotes these values within the Specialty Courts team.
  17. May be assigned to work in any court location, as needed.
  18. May be required to work flexible hours which could include early mornings or evenings.
  19. Perform other tasks as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS / EXPERIENCE:

Position requires firm, proven leadership skills.   While a bachelor’s degree is preferred, experience and proven leadership skills may replace degree requirements on a case-by-case basis.

Candidates will have substantial prior experience leading, growing and nourishing teams with a proven coaching and participative style.  Prior experience leading an inclusive environment is necessary.

SUPERVISION:
Work is performed under the general direction of the Specialty Courts Administrator.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
Employment is dependent on background check, criminal history and fingerprint check, and drug screen.  Applicants must complete County application form.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
Van Buren County Courts are dynamic and candidates for this position must be able to adapt and thrive in a changing environment.   One must be able to work with people who are operating in financially and emotionally stressful situations and must display appropriate decorum and professionalism with both attorneys and with non-lawyer litigants.  Must be able to maintain a record of orderly, law-abiding citizenship, sobriety, and integrity.  Must adhere to the Model Code of Conduct for Michigan Trial Court Employees.
