Immigration Attorney

We are seeking an Immigration Attorney to become a part of our team You will represent clients in legal proceedings, draw up legal documents and advise clients on legal transactions.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
Case Assessment and Strategy Development • Conduct client interviews and consultations to assess survivors’ needs and service eligibility; • Develop case strategy, perform legal research, and draft and file legal pleadings, applications, and other documents.
Client Advocacy • Represent clients in immigration matters including, U Visas, T Visas, VAWA Self-Petitions and VAWA cancellation, Battered Spouse Waivers • Provide individualized, holistic, culturally sensitive, trauma-informed services and connect clients to community-based supportive services as appropriate. Case Management • Ensure timely and accurate case file maintenance, including electronic records; • Maintain excellent working relationships with clients through frequent, proactive communication; • Calendar court events/client visits and meet all case deadlines; • Collect and report case-related data in our online case management system; • Comply with agency protocols and grant requirements regarding data tracking and reporting on client demographics, legal issues presented, and services provided. Other Responsibilities • With the BISP Legal Advocate, identify cultural hubs, community events, and community partners to outreach and promote Black Immigrant Survivor Project; • Complete grant-required forms and reports; • Follow all Jenesse Center policies and procedures and standards of professional responsibility; • Participate in staff training and meetings and perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
• Minimum of 2 years of experience practicing immigration law with a particular focus on survivor-based forms of relief (e.g., U and T Visas, VAWA self-petitions and cancellation, BSWs, and Asylum) • Fluency in African languages or dialects, Spanish, Spanish Creole, French, French Creole, or Creole Patois • Experience working with Black immigrant communities or lived experience as a Black immigrant • Demonstrated ability to implement trauma-informed best practices • Demonstrated commitment to public interest law and/or victim’s rights • Experience working with victims and survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, and other crimes. • Strong interpersonal, organizational, and time management skills • Attention to detail and superior written and oral communication and advocacy skills • Ability to work successfully with people from diverse backgrounds and all levels of personnel. • Experience in community outreach, organizing, and collaboration-buildings
