Our client, a reputable firm in Bakersfield, is looking for a Tax Senior or Tax Supervisor to join their team. This firm specializes in Tax and Assurance services for Agriculture, Healthcare, Oil, Energy, and Construction Industries.

 

Role Details:

 

This position is for an experienced Senior/Supervisor.  In this role, you will be responsible for applying technical tax principles to individual tax return preparation. Working as part of a team that helps to provide tax knowledge and experience to clients. Managing and completing assigned engagements of intermediate complexity with an emphasis on quality standards, timely completion, and profitability. Providing high level support for clients including managing expectations and meeting deliverable deadlines. Working as part of a team that helps to provide industry knowledge and experience to clients. Supervising staff by developing, motivating and training team members assigned to engagements. Collaborating with supervisors, managers and partners on both team and client issues. Keeping the manager informed of all important developments on engagement, analyzes problems, and recommends solutions. Conducting engagement completion and mid-year performance evaluations for staff and provides data for the preparation of the annual performance evaluation. Maintaining knowledge of general economic and political trends of possible tax or other legislation that could affect the business climate. Maintaining a current knowledge of industry trends of assigned industry niche to improve market share. Gaining knowledge of new and emerging accounting practices, procedures, and legislation that could benefit existing client base. Compiling research and prepares reports and memoranda on various small business topics

This position offers an opportunity for rapid growth and advancement to Manager and above.

 

Ideal candidates will have the following:

2- 3 years of experience at a public accounting firm.

 

CPA license or progress towards obtaining a license.

 

Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Tax, or a Related Field is required.

 

Ambitious to grow within the company and mentor staff.

 

Excellent client service and communication skills.

 

Ability to manage multiple projects and requests.

 

Attention to detail and a strong work ethic.

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Strong general accounting knowledge with significant experience doing trial balance work and complex journal entries.

Technical knowledge sufficient to supervise Staff and Senior Accountants on financial statement audit, review and compilation engagements, as well as in the preparation of complex tax returns.

Experience in preparing a wide variety of complex tax returns, and significant experience reviewing the work of others.

Proficiency with tax law and complex tax research using available resources and platforms.

Through understanding of GAAP, generally accepted auditing standards and common audit procedures and techniques.

Demonstrated proficiency in the use of the Firm’s standard software, including Lacerte, ProSystems FX, and excel.

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

Ability to manage time, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines.

Ability to exercise sound judgment and maintain confidentiality in handling sensitive information.

Demonstrated ability to work both independently and with a team.

Ability to manage multiple projects, assignments and deadlines, and to delegate appropriately and effectively.

Experience in supervising and developing others.
