Dog Kennel Assistant Position

Are you a dog lover with a keen eye for detail and the ability to multi-task?
We are excited to announce that our small family-owned Dog Boarding and Training facility has a full-time position open for a motivated and enthusiastic Kennel Assistant.

Job Description
The Kennel Assistant will support the Kennel Manager in the daily operations of the kennel and care of the dogs kept under their supervision. They must oversee the dogs kept in their kennels to ensure that they are cared for properly.
Duties & Responsibilities
The job entails the following duties:

  • Ensuring cages, runs, and the overall facility is kept clean;
  • Ensuring the dogs are groomed, fed, exercised, and generally cared for;
  • Monitoring the behavior of boarded dogs;
  • Other duties as assigned.

Compensation
$13 per hour for the initial 30 day period We anticipate approximately 20 to 30 hours a week during the 30 Day trial period.
Hours Needed
We anticipate approximately 20 to 30 hours a week during the 30 Day trial period.
After the trial period, the Fulltime Position will be 5 days per week and working weekends (Saturday or Sunday) and $16 per hour
Working Schedule as follows:
Morning Shift: 7:00 am to 11:00 am
Evening Shift: 3:30 pm to 7:30 am

Skills & Competencies
No degree or formal training is required to secure a position as a Kennel Assistant, however, most successful applicants have experience working with dogs.

To be successful in this role, you’ll generally need the following skills and qualities:

  • Compassion: Kennel Assistants must be kind and caring when dealing with dogs
  • Experience: Useful prior experience may include work as a kennel assistant, veterinary technician, or dog walker.
  • Dog Maintenance: Kennel Assistants need to be comfortable being around high-spirited dogs and able to handle all personalities and temperaments.
  • Interpersonal skills: Kennel Assistants must interact and maintain a positive relationship with all kennel staff.
  • Physical stamina: Kennel Assistants need to be on their feet for long hours at a time or may need to crawl, bend, and lift to work with the dogs.
  • Trustworthy & Reliable: Kennel Assistants must demonstrate that they can be trusted to independently care for the dogs and oversee the kennel.
  • Attention to Detail: Kennel Assistants will need to follow a specific kennel-care checklist.
  • Flexible Schedule: The schedule might change sometimes with advanced notice. Must be able to work weekends.
  • Must be living within 30 minutes from our facility in Plant City and able to commute independently
