Title: Social Emotional Learning Coordinator
Department/Location: Programming
Reports to: Social Emotional Learning Program Manager
Exempt/Non-Exempt: Non-Exempt
The SEL Coordinator is responsible for the implementation and delivery of Social Emotional activities with the goal to support students to develop healthy identities, manage emotions, establish and maintain supportive relationships, and make responsible and caring decisions. The SEL program also includes Bullying Prevention, Drug and Violence Prevention, Character and Leadership, Mentoring, and Health & Life Skills. The SEL coordinator is responsible for creating a trauma informed approach and culture by working in collaboration with club staff, family members and community partners.
Key Roles (Essential Responsibilities):
In keeping with the BGCA Formula for Impact objectives effectively implement and administer programs, services and activities for members that are fun, educational and engaging.
- Conduct SMART lessons, games and activities provided by the SEL Program Manager on daily or weekly basis as scheduled.
- Collaborate with Fatherhood Educator to deliver Passport to Manhood curriculum to assigned members.
- Complete weekly individual case mentoring assignments, draft service plans, review case progress and determine case closure for individual BGCPBC members.
- Help member (s) make informed decisions by acting as their mentor regarding their behavior.
- Develop effective working relations and cooperate with BGCPBC members and their families through behavioral progress plan.
- Deliver at least 3 family educational sessions as it relates to the needs of the adult family members of the club.
- Arrange referrals with social services, mental health and governmental agencies if needed.
- Interact with members to keep track of their behavioral progress through case notes to ensure behavioral satisfaction.
- Record cases information, complete accurately all necessary forms and produce statistical reports.
- Promote quality and cost-effective interventions and outcomes.
- Adhere to professional standards as outlined by protocols, rules and regulations
- Report statistical information for DOE , DJJ and DOJJDP grants.
- Complete yearly program trainings through DJJ
- Mentoring the Club members
- Provide Trauma informed redirection to members where needed.
Skills & Knowledge Required:
Bachelor’s degree in Social Services/ Human Services or Youth and Families.
- Ability to use technology as a means of instruction and to communicate the programs to Club members
- Experience in teaching or education field preferred
- CPR certified
- 2-3 Experience in working with children in a Social & Emotional Learning (SEL) background or environment.
- Ability to create positive and professional relationships with other employees and Club members
- Strong verbal, listening and written communication skills
- Strong computer skills (Excel, Word, Outlook, ZOOM, etc.)
- Ability to distinguish when it is time to discipline and time to counsel members Ability to be creative with programs
- Ability to enforce Boys & Girls Clubs rules and policies in a fair and equitable manner.
- Valid Florida driver’s license – able to meet insurance requirements (drive to different Club Sites and Administrative Office and/or off-site meetings/training as required for the position)
