Building Maintenance Engineer Technician

Job Description: Performs regularly assigned school maintenance work daily including operation, maintenance, preventative maintenance, and repairs for School Facilities, utilizing automated control systems (EBI) to monitor, light adjustments, and control various electrical, plumbing, lighting, and mechanical building systems.
- Periodic preventative maintenance.
- Evaluate and recommend equipment and service upgrades.
- Perform minor painting, installation, and repair of drywall, replacement of ceiling tiles, and other light carpentry task
- Summer maintenance including exterior clean-up, locker clean-out, RTU filter changes, Fire Extinguisher Latches, and repairs.
- Inspect buildings, electrical systems, grounds, and equipment to ensure safe, operational conditions; identify hazards, defects, and needed repairs.
- Maintain, repair, and install equipment and fixtures in the various campus buildings.
- Perform minor troubleshooting and repairs; replace light bulbs, ballasts and fuses.
- Repair and/or replace electrical outlets, light switches, plate covers, etc.
- Perform routine and scheduled preventive maintenance and troubleshooting on HVAC system; lubricate bearings and change filters and belts in air handlers; adjust thermostats and temperature controls.
- Assist other skilled technicians (i.e., electricians, plumbers, carpenters, HVAC technicians) with repairs and installations as necessary.
- Identify and perform basic service and repair on plumbing fixtures such as sinks, toilets, urinals, water fountains, water heaters, faucets and flush valves, and other parts and appliances; clean and open clogged lines, sinks, and drains.
- Assist in moving and attic stock operations of physical plant equipment, furniture, and supplies.
- Perform minor painting, installation and repair of drywall, replacement of ceiling tiles, and other light carpentry tasks.
- Operate a variety of vehicles, machinery, equipment and tools including maintenance fleet, forklift, buffers/scrubbers, saws, routers, drills, drill presses and common hand tools.
- Assemble classroom and office equipment and furniture.
- Assist with set-up and facility preparation for special meetings or events, including moving/arranging furniture and equipment.
- Maintain inventory of tools, equipment, and supplies.
- Perform routine preventive maintenance.
- Complete maintenance work orders as assigned and in a timely manner.
- Perform other duties assigned by the Lead SBL, Director of Facilities, or Assistant Facilities Manager.
OTHER QUALIFICATIONS:
- Basic computer skills
- Basic knowledge of HVAC, plumbing and electrical systems
- Ability to work with hardware tools and power equipment.
- Detail-orientated with an aptitude for problem-solving.
- Ability to work with machinery or move heavy equipment.
- Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
Minimum Education:
- Graduation from high school or equivalent.
- Four (3-5) years’ experience in building operations, engineering, and equipment and systems maintenance including experience with Building Automation Systems (BAS)/Direct Digital Controls. Current Universal CFC License, boiler maintenance experience, ability to successful pass and maintain the security background clearance check, ability to travel between different sites based on the weekly schedule (valid driver license)
Physical Demands:
- Ability to work extended hours during peak times.
- Ability to bend, stoop, climb, reach, push, pull for prolonged periods.
- Ability to lift at least 50 pounds.
- Knowledge of the Occupational Safety and Health Act and Hazardous Communications regarding worker safety and the use of chemicals Work Environment: School Facilities
