Job Title: Junior Camp Counselor
Department: Youth Activities
Reports to: Camp Director
FLSA: Hourly, Non-Exempt
 

General Summary: The Junior Camp Counselor is responsible for leading recreational and educational activities, and supervising young campers at all times.
 

Essential Functions:

· Plan outdoor activities or sports for groups of campers

· Create weekly or daily schedules taking into account children’s age groups and interests

· Lead recreational and educational activities (such as swimming, caving, or crafting)

· Escort and oversee children ages 3-13 years old

· Educate campers through games and explorations

· Set up and maintain equipment; ensuring all equipment is operating correctly

· Resolve occasional fights between children and address behavioral issues

· Make sure all safety rules are followed

· Ensure the area is clean for the guests

· Perform first aid or take care of injuries as needed

· Keep accurate incident logs
 

Competencies:

· Must be able to promote, lead, teach, and conduct activities

· Must be energetic

· Must be capable of ensuring order, and enforcing rules while promoting a fun and safe environment

· Must be professional at all times

· Must be well-spoken and effectively communicate with children, staff, management, and parents

· Must have integrity and an outstanding work ethic
 

Requirements

Educations/Experience:

· High School Diploma or Current Student

· Must be able to swim and be comfortable in a pool environment

· First Aid and AED/CPR certified

· Minimum of 2 years experience teaching with children
 

Physical Demands and Work Environment:

Work Conditions: Conditions described below are representative of those that must be met by an employee to perform the essential functions of this job successfully and safely. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities.

Environment: This position operates in a primarily outdoor environment with little time spent indoors. The outdoor climate is hot and humid, and dry at times.

Physical: The employee is frequently required to stand, walk, reach with hands and arms, stoop, bend, or kneel. The employee must lift or move up to 20 pounds. Requires normal range of hearing and eyesight to record, prepare, and communicate activities to others. The incumbent must be able to perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable workplace accommodation.

Hearing: The ability to hear, understand, and distinguish speech and/or other sounds (e.g., medical codes, or alarms).

Speaking: Expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word to impart oral information to clients or the public and to convey detailed spoken instructions to other workers accurately, loudly, or quickly.
