Overview:

The Equine Psychotherapist counsels and aids individuals and groups regarding psychological or emotional problems such as stress, substance abuse, posttraumatic stress or family situations. Develops and implements therapeutic treatment plan. Responsible for safety, health and well-being of all clients during session facilitation. Assists Clinical Director in implementing curriculum for assigned group.

Job Accountability:

· Hold and maintain the safety and well-being of the client as the number one priority

· Interview patient to obtain information concerning history, treatment and other pertinent information.

· Formulates program for therapeutic treatment, behavior modification, reduction in trauma response and stress management therapy to assist in reduction in trauma related behaviors and other difficult to manage behaviors.

· Counsels clients individually and in group sessions.

· Completes and maintains individual and group progress notes and documentation within 24 hours following the treatment session excluding weekends and holidays.

· Able to manage horse behavior during therapies

· Provide direction and coaching to volunteers, as needed

· Serve as point of contact for clients and in case of emergency

· Build and maintain positive relationships with clients and staff

· Demonstrate adaptability and flexibility to changes in work environment

· Assist with animal care, as needed.

· Prepare for and attend administrative meetings; provide feedback when appropriate

Minimum Qualifications:

· 2-4 years work related experience

· Masters of Counseling/Social Work/Marriage and Family Therapy required

· EAGALA, EPONA, PATH or Equivalent Certified Preference

  • Somatic Experience or Trauma Trained Preferred

· Must pass background check and have a current fingerprint clearance card

· CPR/First Aid certified and current valid TB test
